Full Job Description
The Advanced Electro-Optical Systems Group (Group 99) specializes in the rapid design and prototyping of innovative electro-optic systems that support the Department of Defense, NASA, and other U.S. government organizations. The group has deep expertise in satellite systems, electro-optical and infrared sensors, electronics, image processing, and low-SWaP (size, weight, and power) optical communications. By combining hardware and software development under one roof, the group rapidly architects, prototypes, and deploys end-to-end systems tailored to mission needs. We work closely with end users to transform enabling concepts into operational capabilities on accelerated timelines.

We are seeking self-motivated engineers and scientists with multidisciplinary skill sets and a passion for prototyping cutting-edge systems that address critical national challenges.

Job Description

The Group seeks an Engineer to join our prototyping team, focused on building and integrating advanced electro-optic camera systems. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with optical, mechanical, and electrical engineers to design, prototype, integrate, and deploy highly integrated electro-optic systems for terrestrial and space applications.

This role emphasizes hands-on execution and system-level ownership, including electronics design, hardware bring-up, debugging, and integration with sensors, optics, and mechanical assemblies. The ideal candidate is self-directed, comfortable working in ambiguous problem spaces, and able to identify, scope, and solve problems across disciplinary boundaries. Engineers in this role are expected to think beyond individual boards or subsystems and contribute to overall system performance, reliability, and mission success.

The Group is vertically integrated and develops systems from concept through prototyping and deployment. Given the collaborative and hardware-focused nature of the work, the successful applicant is expected to work fully on site.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field. In lieu of a PhD, a Master's with 5 years of experience or Bachelor's with 10 years of experience will be considered.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • This is an on-site, collaborative role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and independently
  • Demonstrated ability to solve broad technical problems and complex engineering challenges
