Technical Sales Engineer - Automotive, Electronic Materials

Momentive's Electronic Materials business is at the forefront of the technologies driving today's automotive transformation, including vehicle electrification, EV battery systems, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous driving, vehicle connectivity, and advanced power electronics. We are seeking a Technical Sales Engineer to help accelerate the adoption of innovative materials solutions that enable the next generation of automotive technologies.

In this highly visible, customer-facing role, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor to automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, electronics manufacturers, battery system providers, and emerging mobility companies. Leveraging both your technical expertise and commercial acumen, you'll help customers solve complex design, manufacturing, and reliability challenges while identifying new opportunities for business growth.

As a key member of the Electronic Materials team, you must be comfortable interacting with a wide range of customer stakeholders, including design engineers, manufacturing engineers, materials engineers, procurement professionals, program managers, and business leaders. The ability to communicate complex technical concepts and translate customer needs into actionable business opportunities will be critical for success to help bring innovative solutions to market.

This position reports directly to the NAM Electronics Commercial Leader.

Responsibilities Include:

Technical Sales & Business Development
  • Identify and develop new opportunities where Momentive's Electronic Materials portfolio can provide value within automotive applications including EV batteries, battery packs, power electronics, onboard charging, ADAS systems, sensors, radar modules, cameras, ECUs, connectivity systems, lighting, and autonomous vehicle technologies.
  • Support business growth initiatives by working directly with automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, Tier 2 suppliers, electronic component manufacturers, and channel partners to identify and qualify new opportunities.
  • Promote existing and newly developed materials through technical presentations, product demonstrations, and customer engagement activities.
  • Utilize the DFV opportunity screening methodology to evaluate and prioritize prospective opportunities.
  • Meet business growth objectives through the development of new applications, new customers, and expansion of existing customer relationships.

Customer Technical Support
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers by helping solve application challenges involving thermal management, environmental protection, reliability, vibration resistance, sealing, bonding, dispensing, electrical insulation, EMI shielding, and component protection.
  • Interface directly with customer engineering teams to understand design requirements and recommend appropriate Momentive solutions.
  • Support material evaluations, qualification activities, and specification efforts at targeted OEM and Tier accounts.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Product Management, ADE, and R&D teams to communicate customer needs and identify product development opportunities.
  • Support customer validation activities and qualification requirements associated with automotive reliability and performance standards.

Customer & Channel Engagement
  • Manage assigned direct-sale automotive accounts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with engineering, procurement, program management, manufacturing, and quality personnel within customer organizations.
  • Support Momentive's distribution network by providing technical expertise, training, and application support.
  • Assist distribution partners in identifying opportunities and positioning Momentive technologies within target accounts.
  • Support commercial discussions by providing technical justification and application expertise during qualification and adoption activities.

Industry Presence & Market Intelligence
  • Represent Momentive at industry trade shows, conferences, technical seminars, and customer events.
  • Monitor automotive industry trends including electrification, battery technologies, semiconductor packaging, thermal management, autonomous driving systems, and vehicle connectivity.
  • Share customer feedback and market insights with internal stakeholders to support strategic planning and product development activities.
  • Identify emerging applications where Momentive technologies can drive future growth.

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate opportunity and account information within the CRM (SFA) system.
  • Routinely update sales activities, customer interactions, and call reports in CRM.
  • Coordinate sample requests, testing activities, qualification programs, and customer follow-up actions.
  • Support forecasting activities by maintaining an accurate opportunity pipeline and updating forecast information in Arkieva.
  • Prepare opportunity reviews, key account plans, business summaries, and technical reports as required.

Travel Requirements
  • Ability to work independently from a remote office environment.
  • Domestic and international travel up to 50% as required to support customer engagements, technical reviews, business development activities, and industry events.


Qualifications:

The following are required for the role
  • 5+ years of technical sales, application engineering, business development, product management, or commercial experience within specialty materials, electronics, automotive, adhesives, sealants, silicones, thermal materials, or related industries.
  • Experience working with automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, electronics manufacturers, or other automotive value-chain participants.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to engineering and business audiences.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Valid passport.
  • Willingness and ability to work remotely and travel extensively.


The following are preferred for the role
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Chemistry.
  • Experience with automotive electronics, EV battery systems, power electronics, ADAS systems, sensors, or autonomous vehicle technologies.
  • Experience with silicone-based materials including RTVs, thermal interface materials, encapsulates, coatings, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers.
  • Experience supporting material qualification and specification at automotive OEMs or Tier suppliers.
  • Experience with adhesive and sealant dispensing equipment and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with SalesForce.com, SAP, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience operating within a global organization and managing programs with international stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of automotive development processes, validation requirements, and quality systems.

What We Offer:
Base Pay Range: $122,500 - $179,300

The actual salary offered is determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, skill sets, and geography. Local geographic pay differentials may not be reflected in the above pay range and will be discussed with you by a member of the HR team when applicable.
