Full Job Description
One Material Handling System (OMHS) is building Amazon's in-house material handling capabilities, transforming how Amazon designs, builds, and operates its facilities. As Amazon's internal material handling system integrator, we combine precision in technical project management with the vision needed to revolutionize our material handling capabilities. We are seeking a talented and motivated Technical Infrastructure Program Manager who will exemplify ownership of their assigned material handling projects, ensuring successful implementation across Amazon's network. Our TIPM works closely with WWDE, Operations Engineering, strategic suppliers, and cross-functional teams to deliver complex material handling systems. This role requires both strategic vision and tactical execution to standardize project delivery while maintaining the high standards that complex material handling systems demand. You will drive projects through our comprehensive Project Lifecycle Framework, from initiation through commissioning and handover, while helping establish the processes and playbooks that will enable OMHS to scale across Amazon's network.

Key job responsibilities

In partnership with WWDE, Operations Engineering, strategic suppliers, and other functional groups this individual will drive the execution strategy and management for material handling system implementations. This position will provide project leadership throughout the entire lifecycle of specific project(s) of a particular building type (ARS, SSD, AMZL, IXD, 1DC, RDC).

- Serve as the single-threaded leader for material handling system implementation programs, driving end-to-end execution across mechanical engineering, controls integration, power systems, and operational requirements for specific building types (ARS, SSD, AMZL, IXD).

- Lead a multi-disciplined team and sub-contractors; manage conflict, establish priorities, coordinate concurrent and sequencing activities, develop team members, and provide overall project leadership.

- Manage the project master schedule, administrative, contractual, technical, and financial aspects of projects to achieve timely completion, holding all internal teams and external vendors accountable for their commitments.

- Drive cross-functional communications and strategic planning for material handling system deployment, determining KPIs and driving standardization initiatives while building strong relationships with operations, functional groups, vendors, and senior leaders.

- Define and continuously improve technical standards, deployment methodologies, and best practices for material handling system implementations, including the development of the Project Lifecycle Framework and implementation playbooks.

- Coordinate across specialized engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, controls) to maintain ownership of system integration approaches, ensuring technical requirements, performance standards, and operational metrics are met throughout all lifecycle phases.

- Manage technical partnerships with OEMs and 3P engineering firms to ensure optimal system design, integration, and commissioning.

- Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks in system design, integration approach, and operational implementation while leveraging knowledge management systems and engineering documentation standards.

- Drive commercial and technical strategy during project execution, creating mechanisms and processes that increase velocity while maintaining quality and execution excellence

A day in the life

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute material handling system implementations while establishing standardized processes for future deployments. Provide cross-functional leadership by aligning engineering, operations, procurement, installation and commissioning teams around shared project objectives and milestones. Develop and deliver project execution strategies and detailed plans to drive implementation from initiation through commissioning, ensuring project(s) success. Own and manage project budgets, tracking expenditures against forecasts, identifying cost risks early, and implementing corrective actions to maintain financial targets. Maintain rigorous schedule oversight by developing comprehensive project timelines, monitoring critical path activities, and proactively addressing delays to keep projects on track. Interface with strategic partners to ensure successful integration of Amazon-spec equipment and facilitate cross-organizational collaboration to resolve technical and logistical challenges.
