Full Job Description
The Opportunity

This isn't a traditional sales role with an established territory, lead list, and playbook. You'll help determine where we should be, who we should be speaking with, and how we turn new relationships into long-term partnerships.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll report to the COO and work closely with the CEO and senior technical leaders. Your initial focus will be creating new client relationships across utilities, municipalities, and infrastructure in Western Canada.

You will:
  • Research and identify target organizations, stakeholders, and market opportunities.
  • Personally open new accounts through outreach, networking, and industry engagement.
  • Meet with engineering, operations, and business leaders to understand the problems they're trying to solve.
  • Work alongside Encepta's technical teams to shape solutions around those needs.
  • Turn early conversations into qualified opportunities, proposals, and initial projects.
  • Build relationships across technical, operational and executive stakeholders.
  • Develop account and market-entry strategies for new sectors.
  • Maintain visibility and discipline across the opportunity pipeline.
  • Help build a repeatable business development process as Encepta expands.

What Success Looks Like

Your first few months will be spent learning Encepta's technical capabilities properly, including fielding, pole loading analysis, design, and permitting, while identifying priority markets and accounts.

From there, success means opening genuine new client relationships, creating qualified opportunities outside our existing client base and building a credible pipeline of new business.

We're realistic about complex engineering sales cycles. We're interested in quality of opportunities and new-client revenue, not activity for activity's sake.

What We're Looking For

You don't need to come from a traditional sales background. We're interested in people with a technical foundation across engineering, utilities, telecommunications, infrastructure, geomatics, geospatial, industrial technology or a related environment who have demonstrated commercial capability. You may currently be working in business development, technical sales, applications/solutions engineering, engineering consulting, project engineering or a technical leadership role.

What matters most is that you:
  • Can build credibility with technical stakeholders.
  • Have personally developed new clients or created opportunities from scratch.
  • Take a consultative approach and are curious about the problems clients are trying to solve.
  • Are comfortable conducting research, outreach and first meetings yourself.
  • Can work with technical specialists to turn client needs into commercially viable solutions.
  • Are comfortable operating without an established sales playbook.
  • Bring sound commercial judgement and know when an opportunity is, or isn't, worth pursuing.
  • P.Eng. is an asset but not required.

If you're an engineer or technical professional who has been considering moving further into the commercial side of the business, we'd particularly like to hear from you.

Why Encepta?

You'll join a technically strong, entrepreneurial organization where you'll have significant autonomy and direct access to senior leadership.

Encepta offers:
  • The opportunity to build and shape the BD function rather than inherit one.
  • Strong technical differentiation across engineering, field data, LiDAR, spatial data and AI-enabled workflows.
  • Direct collaboration with experienced engineering and operational leaders.
  • Competitive base salary plus performance-based compensation.
  • Hybrid working, benefits and RRSP matching.
  • The opportunity to influence Encepta's expansion into new markets across Western Canada.
