This position is a member of our
Critical Infrastructure Division.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING - Inspect existing dams to ensure they are safe and secure. You will visit dam sites, evaluate their condition, write clear reports, recommend any needed fixes, and work directly with dam owners and their engineers to complete safety assessments.
- Perform indepth studies on dams ' including water flow, water pressure, and structural strength ' for both proposed and existing dams. You will write clear reports summarizing your findings and provide practical recommendations for any needed corrections.
- Inspect dams that are being built or modified to make sure construction matches the approved plans and meets good engineering standards. You will document your findings and provide clear recommendations if any corrections are needed.
- Review construction plans for new dams and dam modifications to ensure they meet engineering standards and TCEQ rules. You will approve plans that meet requirements or recommend needed revisions.
- Reviews engineering reports submitted by dam owners and their engineers.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Engineer VI: Texas Professional Engineer's license plus five years of fulltime engineering experience beyond licensure.
Career Ladder Progression: One year of fulltime experience at TCEQ as an Engineer V.
Qualifying work experience includes obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.
Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.
