JOB SUMMARY
The Estate, Gift, and Trust Senior Professional plays a pivotal role in delivering sophisticated tax compliance and planning services to high-net-worth clients, families, and their advisors. You will oversee complex tax engagements, manage client relationships, mentor junior staff, and provide expert guidance on estate, gift, and trust tax matters. JOB DESCRIPTION

Tax Compliance and Review:

  • Prepare and review advanced estate, gift, and trust tax returns (Forms 706, 709, 5227 and 1041)

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local tax regulations

  • Address technical tax issues and ensure accuracy and timeliness of all deliverables

Tax Planning and Advisory Services:

  • Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and maximize wealth preservation

  • Collaborate with clients, attorneys, and financial advisors to craft customized estate and trust plans

  • Provide strategic recommendations to clients based on their unique goals and financial situations

Client Engagement and Relationship Management:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, fostering strong relationships through regular communication and exceptional service

  • Proactively identify client needs and offer solutions that align with their objectives.

  • Manage multiple engagements simultaneously, ensuring client satisfaction and timely delivery of services

Team Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Supervise and mentor junior team members, providing technical training and professional development support

  • Review the work of staff to maintain accuracy and adherence to firm standards

  • Foster a collaborative team culture and contribute to the success of the department.

Research and Thought Leadership:

  • Stay up to date on changes in estate, gift, and trust tax laws and regulations

  • Conduct in-depth research on complex tax issues and present findings to the team and clients

  • Contribute to thought leadership initiatives, including internal knowledge sharing and external client updates

Process Improvement and Innovation:

  • Identify and implement best practices to enhance efficiency in tax compliance and planning processes

  • Leverage technology and automation to streamline workflows and improve service delivery

Work environment

  • Work is conducted in a professional office environment with minimal distractions

Physical demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and performing work in front of a computer screen for long periods of time

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time

Travel required

  • Travel may be frequent and unpredictable, depending on client’s needs

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field

  • Minimum 5 accounting classes, one individual income tax class, and one business law class

  • 3 – 6 years of relevant experience including some preparation of estate, gift and trust returns

  • Software: Axcess Tax, Axcess Document, Axcess Workstream, Thomson Reuters Fixed Assets CS, Checkpoint for Tax Research

Preferred education and experience

  • Experience in professional service environment, such as a CPA firm, financial consulting firm, or similar setting

  • Possession of or actively working towards professional certification(s) such as CPA, Enrolled Agent, LLM, CFP, MST, or Juris Doctor (JD)

  • Responsible for completing the minimum CPE credit requirement
