The Tax Manager oversees and coordinates tax-related activities within the firm while actively participating in client service, tax planning, and practice development.
This position serves as a technical resource for staff and clients, reviews complex tax returns, mentors team members, and helps ensure the firm's tax services remain accurate, efficient, and responsive to client needs.
This role requires a proactive professional who can operate independently within the firm's established priorities while exercising sound judgment, communicating effectively, and taking ownership of client service and project outcomes.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills, leadership ability, and a proactive approach to client service.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Review:
• Review and sign off on tax returns for partnerships, corporations, trusts, estates, nonprofits, and individuals
• Ensure filings are accurate, complete, and submitted on time
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements
Client Advisory & Planning
• Serve as a trusted advisor to tax clients
• Provide tax planning and consulting services
• Identify tax-saving opportunities and strategic planning solutions
• Assist clients with complex tax issues and business decisions
Leadership & Team Development
• Supervise, mentor, and develop staff accountants and seniors
• Provide technical guidance and coaching
• Assist with workload management and staff development
• Support recruiting and retention efforts
Process Improvement & Practice Development
• Recommend and implement process improvements and best practices
• Evaluate opportunities to improve efficiency through technology and automation
• Contribute ideas that support the growth and evolution of the tax practice
Research & Technical Expertise
• Stay current on changes in tax laws and regulations
• Conduct tax research and prepare technical guidance as needed
• Serve as a resource for clients and staff regarding emerging tax issues
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
• Five or more years of public accounting experience with recent tax experience
• Prior supervisory or management experience preferred
• Strong technical tax knowledge
• Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills
• Ability to build trusted relationships with clients and staff
