Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:

Natera is looking for a Senior Tax and Compliance Manager expert to manage and facilitate the accurate preparation and filing of our company's various tax and compliance filings including, state and federal income and business tax filings, international tax compliance, as well as multi-state sales and use tax returns. The ideal candidate is a team player who creates and implements tax plans, forecasts, and works with the accounting and leadership teams to identify opportunities for process improvement, tax savings, and potential areas of risk. The Tax and Compliance Manager will ensure compliance with state, federal and international tax law through a series of systems, inquiries and controls that are designed to ensure accurate, timely reporting. They will monitor current and impending changes to tax regulation and make the appropriate updates to policies and strategies. The ideal candidate is single minded in their pursuit of ensuring compliance and achieves this goal through optimizing reporting procedures and driving the successful performance of the tax function. This role will be reporting to Corporate Controller.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for federal, state and international tax related accounting and compliance, including such taxes as income, business, sales and use, withholding, HST/GST, VAT and property taxes, as well as preparing and/or coordinated other regulatory and compliance filings as required.
  • Facilitate and manage the preparation and review (including for SOX compliance documentation purposes) company federal and state tax returns and the accurate, timely filing of all tax forms.
  • Ensure accurate, timely filing of consolidated federal, state and local income tax returns and other business-related filings, including sales, use, property tax returns and additional statutory recurring filings.
  • Prepare adjusting journal entries as needed.
  • Responsible for tax related accounts and related reconciliations
  • Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.
  • Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal, state and international taxes.
  • Manage relationship with third party consulting firm who is currently assisting with miscellaneous tax compliance initiatives and tax returns.
  • Plan for and develop overall tax returns and business tax and compliance filings calendar and coordinate timing and inputs from accounting team and management.
  • Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
  • Manage and facilitate IRS income tax audits: preparing responses, creating schedules, etc.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.
  • Provide support with various internal audits and special tax related projects.
  • Review tax returns and quarterly/yearly tax projections.
  • Occasionally be involved with employee level taxation questions such as equity related with holdings.
  • Being fully engaged in external audits of internal controls by Big 4 and oversee and monitor progress and execution.
  • To be engaged in any other related adhoc projects, as needed. Duties typically performed in an office setting.
  • This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone and read printed material.
  • Duties may require working outside normal working hours (evenings & weekends) at times.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 7+ years of experience as a tax manager in public accounting.
  • Have a current CPA license preferred.
  • Extensive individual and corporate tax knowledge.
  • Familiarity with U.S. federal, state and local reporting requirements.
  • Familiarity with international taxation in withholding and VAT taxation.
  • Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations.
  • Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements.
  • Proficient with the following software/tools: Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word), Outlook, gSuite (GMail, Sheets, Hangouts).

Compensation & Total Rewards

This range reflects a good-faith estimate of the base pay we reasonably expect to offer at the time of hire. Final compensation will vary based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
