Position Summary
The Tax Manager is responsible for managing client engagements, overseeing tax compliance and planning, and leading staff to ensure timely and accurate delivery of services. This role serves as a key liaison between clients, staff, and firm leadership, ensuring high-quality client service while maintaining operational efficiency and adherence to firm standards.

Key Responsibilities
Client Service & Engagement Management
- Manage a portfolio of business and individual tax clients across various industries
- Serve as the primary client contact for tax matters, responding to inquiries and providing proactive guidance
- Review complex tax returns including:
- Partnerships (Form 1065)
- S-Corporations (Form 1120-S)
- C-Corporations (Form 1120)
- High-net-worth individuals (Form 1040)
- Ensure timely delivery of all client work in accordance with deadlines (e.g., 3/15, 4/15, 9/15, 10/15)
- Identify tax planning opportunities and communicate recommendations clearly to clients
Technical & Compliance Oversight
- Review and ensure accuracy of federal, state, and local tax filings
- Conduct technical research on complex tax issues and document conclusions
- Stay current with tax law changes and regulatory updates
- Ensure compliance with firm policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise, mentor, and develop Senior Associates and Associates
- Review staff work and provide constructive, actionable feedback
- Delegate assignments effectively based on staff skill level and workload
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations
- Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment
Operational & Workflow Management
- Manage engagement budgets, realization, and billing processes
- Monitor workflow using firm systems (e.g., XCM, CCH Axcess)
- Ensure proper time entry, job tracking, and adherence to deadlines
- Identify bottlenecks and escalate issues proactively to leadership
- Contribute to process improvements and operational efficiencies
Business Development & Firm Contribution
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to support retention and growth
- Identify opportunities for additional services (advisory, CAS, assurance coordination)
- Participate in networking, proposals, and firm initiatives as needed
- Contribute to firm culture, training programs, and knowledge sharing
Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required)
- CPA license (preferred or actively pursuing)
Experience
- 5-8+ years of public accounting experience, preferably in a mid-sized firm
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple client engagements simultaneously
- Strong background in pass-through entities and individual taxation
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in tax software (e.g., CCH Axcess)
- Experience with workflow tools (e.g., XCM, Engagement)
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and data analysis
