Full Job Description
STV is seeking a data-driven Building Performance & Decarbonization Lead to serve as the primary computational strategist for sustainability advisory. This role is designed for an advanced technical engineer who bridges the gap between building physics (energy modeling, thermal simulation, fuel switching), regulatory compliance, and corporate sustainability metrics (GHG inventories, embodied carbon, ESG data platforms, investments).

This individual will be responsible for technical delivery, consolidating fragmented simulations, consolidating the firm's fragmented simulation software stack, solving challenges such as fragmented simulation software or establishing automated data integration streams to process environmental datasets efficiently and precisely.

Responsibilities:
Technical Execution and Project Delivery
  • Lead the technical scoping, planning and delivery of greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories, whole-build energy simulations, multi-facility decarbonization roadmaps, and relevant energy-related analytics.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert on energy codes, decarbonization mandates, and carbon performance penalties, translating complex legislation for programmatic improvements.
  • Apply a strong conceptual understanding of advanced low-carbon systems to evaluate physical feasibility and model systems accurately.
  • Drive early-stage integration between mechanical (MEP) systems and architectural envelope performance to optimize operational efficiencies and pursue aggressive EUI targets, Net Zero Carbon, or Passive House standards.
  • Translate engineering and energy data (kWh, therms, carbon profiles) into sophisticated models to justify scenarios to client C-Suite.
  • Evaluate, implement, and manage sustainability software platforms/tools to handle large-scale environmental datasets efficiently.
  • Define technical requirements, collaborating with digitalization specialists and Subject Matter Experts to develop tools and integrate automated sustainability reporting directly into team workflows. Partner with and inform computational change efforts.
  • Form and manage strategic Research & Development (R&D) partnerships with key institutions, developers, and industry bodies to pioneer advanced simulation methodologies, inclusive of asset lifecycle performance.
  • Review, author, and inform project specifications to ensure sustainability targets have clear contractual requirements.

Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of advanced technical experience focused on energy simulation, computational design, or auditing within an AEC firm/specialized cross-disciplinary consulting environment within the AEC industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architectural engineering, or a related field with active professional credential (e.g., PE, AIABEMP, or relevant); Master's preferred.
  • Strong conceptual and high-level technical understanding of modern low-carbon solutions to guide clients through physical technology selections. /
  • Proven track record of executing complex building performance simulation toolsets with well-coordinated, high-performance system plans/designs (e.g., PHIUS/Passive House frameworks).
  • Experienced at interpreting and applying complex energy codes alongside emissions legislation and penalties across portfolios.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using frameworks and digital tools (e.g., ClimateStudio, EnergyPlus, Grasshopper/Ladybug) to automate analytical tasks and handle large datasets.
  • A strong capability or documented history of translating complex engineering data into standardized metrics and clear analytics/financial metrics for executive reporting.
  • Proven experience interfacing with or managing external technical partners to test, validate, and pilot emerging digital building technologies.

If you are passionate about sustainability, possess strong leadership skills, and have a track record of driving positive environmental impacts, we invite you to apply.
