Job Description

We are seeking a Systems Engineer - SME support mission-critical enterprise infrastructure and security operations for a key U.S. Government customer.

We are seeking a Systems Engineer - SME to provide advanced systems engineering, administration, and technical leadership supporting Windows and Linux environments, virtualization platforms, enterprise storage, PKI infrastructure, and Assessment & Authorization (A&A) activities. This role requires extensive experience securing and maintaining highly available, security-controlled systems while ensuring compliance with Sponsor security requirements.The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise across Microsoft and Linux platforms, virtualization technologies, certificate management, enterprise storage, and cybersecurity best practices while demonstrating the ability to work independently and collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

The Systems Engineer - SME shall possess the following capabilities:
  • Design, implement, administer, and maintain enterprise Windows Server and Linux environments supporting mission-critical systems.
  • Engineer, configure, and support Microsoft Windows Server operating systems including Server 2016, 2019, and 2022.
  • Administer Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy Objects (GPO), Active Directory Certificate Services (ADCS), and enterprise identity services.
  • Install, configure, administer, and troubleshoot Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) databases supporting enterprise applications.
  • Manage Hyper-V virtualization environments, virtual machine clusters, and enterprise backup solutions including Microsoft Data Protection Manager.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate system administration, monitoring, reporting, and operational tasks.
  • Engineer and administer Linux operating systems supporting enterprise infrastructure and mission applications.
  • Support Assessment & Authorization (A&A) activities in accordance with Sponsor security requirements and RMF guidance.
  • Maintain system documentation, security artifacts, and accreditation packages required for system authorization.
  • Configure, maintain, and manage Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), certificate services, and certificate lifecycle management for users, servers, and service accounts.
  • Administer Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) to ensure enterprise patch management and security compliance.
  • Support secure data transfers while serving as a Data Transfer Officer in accordance with Sponsor policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, network, storage, and application teams to maintain secure, highly available enterprise environments.
  • Participate in system modernization efforts and infrastructure upgrades supporting evolving mission requirements.
  • Provide technical mentorship, cross-training, and operational support for engineering team members.
  • Maintain detailed engineering documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and technical implementation guides.
  • Exercise sound judgment while handling sensitive information in accordance with government security policies.


Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 16 years of Systems Engineering experience supporting enterprise Windows and Linux environments.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Assessment & Authorization (A&A) activities for security-controlled systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with Windows systems engineering and administration, Active Directory Certificate Services (ADCS), VM clusters, Hyper-V, Data Protection Manager, and PowerShell scripting.


Position requires active Security Clearance with appropriate Polygraph

Pay Range: $225,000 - $240,000
