ACTIVE SECURITY CLEARANCE AT THE TS/SCI POLYGRAPH LEVEL IS REQUIRED
We are seeking a versatile and hands-on Systems Engineer to lead hardware capabilities and infrastructure support in alignment with the Agency's objectives. In this role, you will work at the center of hardware, storage, and networking architectures-ensuring complex Linux cluster environments remain performant, secure, and resilient. You will collaborate closely with product owners, program managers, hardware engineers, network and storage teams, and customer stakeholders to deliver high-quality, service-focused solutions. If you excel at driving infrastructure automation with Ansible and SaltStack, managing virtualized and containerized environments, and creating clear technical documentation for long-term system sustainment, Team Nyla is the place for you!
The annual base salary range for this role is $216,000-$256,000 (USD) , which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things.
Required Skills
Linux System Administration: Demonstrated mastery administering Linux systems, including expert-level proficiency with command-line tools.
Automation & Scripting: Strong capability to develop operational and maintenance automation scripts using Bash and Python.
Software Deployment: Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining COTS, GOTS, and FOSS software across large-scale Linux clusters.
STE/STN Compliance: Familiarity with Agency STE/STN security compliance requirements and a proven ability to ensure all systems adhere to established policies.
Hardware & Server Architecture: Broad technical understanding of compute server components, storage arrays, memory architectures, network fabrics, and database technologies.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Working knowledge of IaC principles and practical experience using configuration management and automation tooling such as Ansible and SaltStack.
Containerization: Hands-on experience with container technologies including Docker, Podman, and containerd.
Storage & Virtualization: Familiarity with Fibre Channel attached storage systems and hands-on experience using Oracle OLVM to manage virtualized Linux environments.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, PLUS 20+ years of professional software engineering experience OR High School Diploma / GED, PLUS 25+ years of hands-on technical software development and big data administration experience in lieu of a degree.
Desired Skills
Container Orchestration: Familiarity with Kubernetes cluster management and orchestration.
Distributed File Systems: Practical experience or exposure to distributed file systems such as Weka, CEPH, GPFS, or HDFS.
Agile Tooling: Experience with the Atlassian Suite of tools, including Jira for task tracking and Confluence for technical documentation.
