POSITION SUMMARY:Join the NASA Wallops Flight Facility team and help power the critical IT and network infrastructure that enables some of NASA's most important space missions. As an Information Technology Specialist on the Wallops Range Contract, you will provide senior-level system administration, network operations, and cybersecurity leadership for the Wallops Range systems that support sounding rockets, launch vehicles, UAS, balloons, and Artemis human spaceflight network operations. With more than 20 global tracking sites and frequent mobile deployments, your expertise in NASCOM, real-time data distribution, Range Mission Network, and mission-critical IT will directly contribute to the success of over 40 NASA missions. OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:- Provide comprehensive system administration and configuration management for all Range IT systems including servers, networks, NASCOM, video distribution, Technical Control, and specialized data processing systems (RADAC, VTARS, etc.).
- Lead implementation of cybersecurity programs (FISMA, RMF, STIGs, Continuous Monitoring, ATO maintenance) and develop/update Range IT Security Plans per NPR 2810.1F.
- Operate, maintain, and sustain NASA Communications (NASCOM) - the primary interface for RCC internal/external communications and real-time data distribution.
- Manage WAN/LAN interfaces and lines of demarcation for fixed and mobile range sites; develop and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and perform configuration control.
- Provide direct IT support during pre-launch, countdown, launch, and post-mission phases in RCC and MOCC; rapidly diagnose and resolve network, server, or data distribution anomalies.
- Support mobile/deployed IT components for range instrumentation during worldwide campaigns; perform system admin and troubleshooting in remote environments.
- Mentor junior IT staff, lead complex troubleshooting efforts, and contribute to process improvement and training initiatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, or closely related technical field from an accredited institution. Master's degree preferred.
Required Skills and Knowledge:- Minimum eight (8) to ten (10) years of progressive experience in system administration, network operations, and/or cybersecurity for mission-critical or real-time operational environments (aerospace, launch range, or DoD/NASA experience strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated expertise administering Windows Server and Linux environments, virtualization platforms, Active Directory, and enterprise networking (switches, routers, firewalls, fiber).
- Strong hands-on experience with cybersecurity frameworks: FISMA, RMF, STIG implementation, vulnerability management, patching/compliance, and ATO processes.
- Experience supporting real-time or high-availability mission operations (countdown/launch windows) with rapid troubleshooting under time pressure.
- Active U.S. Secret security clearance (or ability to obtain/maintain). U.S. citizenship required.
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills; proven ability to work independently or lead integrated Government-Contractor teams.
- Willingness and ability to deploy to remote sites for extended periods and support irregular hours during launch campaigns.
LOCATION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:On-site at Wallops Flight Facility, Wallops Island, VA. Hybrid work schedule may be approved. Frequent deployments to remote range sites (including Poker Flat Research Range, AK) are required.
SECURITY CLEARANCE:Must have ability to obtain and maintain a minimum Secret security clearance. Active Secret clearance preferred.
