Full Job Description
Pivotal is seeking a System Test & Validation Engineer with a strong focus on hands-on prototyping and fabrication. In this role, you will transform early-stage designs into working prototypes through 3D printing, composite layup, system assembly, and propulsion integration. You'll work directly in the shop, collaborating closely with engineers to ensure designs can be physically built, tested, and iterated quickly. The role also requires hands-on experience with internal combustion engines, as you will support integration, testing, and troubleshooting of engine-related systems alongside composite and structural assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate prototype components using 3D printing, machining, and other rapid prototyping methods.
  • Manufacture prototype structures using wet layup composite techniques (fiberglass, carbon fiber, etc.).
  • Build and maintain jigs, molds, and fixtures to support prototype assembly.
  • Assemble and integrate mechanical, electrical, structural, and engine systems for prototype vehicles.
  • Conduct hands-on troubleshooting, modifications, and repairs during build and testing.
  • Provide feedback to design engineers to improve manufacturability and integration.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Skilled in CAD tools (CATIA, NX, or similar) for prototype design.
  • Proficiency with 3D printing (FDM, SLA, or similar) and finishing techniques.
  • Practical experience with wet layup composite fabrication.
  • Strong shop skills: use of hand tools, adhesives, cutting, bonding, and assembly processes.
  • Hands-on experience working with internal combustion engines (assembly, integration, or testing).
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced prototyping environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in prototyping for aerospace or automotive systems.
  • Knowledge of adhesives, bonded structures, and lightweight materials.
  • Familiarity with UAV, drone, or eVTOL builds.

Attributes aligned with Core Values

  • Demonstrates a proactive safety mindset by embedding safety into daily operations, identifying and mitigating risks through assessments and training, encouraging open dialogue on safety concerns, and continuously improving protocols to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Puts customers at the center of every action by deeply understanding their challenges, delivering exceptional value, and striving to exceed expectations to support their success as our core purpose.
  • Actively seeks and values diverse stakeholder perspectives, builds cross-functional relationships, and fosters trust through empathetic, fact-based communication-committing to shared decisions for the greater good.
