ABOUT THE ROLEWe are seeking a
System Engineer to join our team supporting the DOE's
Y-12 National Security Complex! This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Responsibilities- Coordinate configuration management activities.
- Assess system health and performance.
- Provide overall technical responsibility for plant system operability and maintenance activities.
- Work in conjunction with the Configuration Management program for the assigned system(s).
- Prepare configuration control/design change packages for tasks.
- Evaluate the impact of proposed changes and/or modifications to approved safety authorization bases for facilities.
- Perform troubleshooting and improvement activities.
- Apply the systems and equipment expertise needed to resolve technical system and equipment issues in cooperation with other related disciplines.
- Perform system walkdowns.
- Review calibration & equipment test/inspection determinations, spare parts evaluations, & system turnover to owner support.
Requirements- Education & Years of Experience - Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Physical Science (Chemistry, Physics, or related) from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States and 2 or more years of relevant experience.
- Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
- Clearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
- Experience with system engineering, configuration management, and configuration control.
- Ability to assess system health, performance, reliability, and operability.
- Experience developing and reviewing design change/configuration control packages.
- Knowledge of safety authorization basis requirements and evaluation of proposed system modifications.
- Experience with plant system troubleshooting, technical assessments, and system improvements.
- Ability to perform system walkdowns and field evaluations.
- Knowledge of equipment calibration, testing, and inspection requirements.
- Experience evaluating spare parts and equipment maintenance requirements.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Experience supporting system turnover and coordination with system owners, operations, and maintenance personnel.
- Strong technical, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines.
About the SiteThe NNSA's Y-12 National Security Complex, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is the nation's only source of enriched uranium nuclear weapon components and provides enriched uranium for the U.S. Navy as well as excels in materials science, precision manufacturing, and stores enriched uranium. Y-12 supports efforts to reduce nuclear proliferation risk and performs work for other government agencies (energy.gov).
