About the Role, Mission or Department OverviewThe New York Times is looking for a System Analyst to support the operation and maintenance of the infrastructure for our publishing and production operations. You will support essential in-house applications and workflows. You will play an important part in ensuring these systems integrate with our broader production environment.
You will collaborate with the larger IT department. You will need to support our manufacturing processes. You will work with internal colleagues, vendors, and contracted third-party developers.
You will report to the Manager of Production Systems at the College Point plant in Queens, NY. This department is part of the corporate IT department of the New York Times. You will not manage people, but will independently manage projects.
You will be hybrid, with 3 days on-site expected. The College Point plant is a 24/7/365 operation manufacturing newspapers. We will require you to work off hours during system migrations, outages, and upgrades.
Responsibilities:- Research, develop, test, and maintain infrastructure of applications controlling publishing and production, including the following systems: NewswayX - plate room traffic, SGV (Server Guided Vehicle) - Used to control automated paper delivery, EMS/ASRS, PDS, SAM ERP system, Time and Attendance system, Press Monitoring system, and others.
- Support vendor production systems
- Create technical specifications for new features and manage related JIRA tickets.
- Write system and user documentation and provide training to users for new or modified features.
- Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
Basic Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or equivalent professional experience.
- 2+ years Systems Analyst experience.
- Experience supporting publishing, preprint, and print workflows.
- Proficiency in virtual server environments, firewall and security
- Skills in basic IT realms, networking, DNS, IP, GPOs, and database concepts.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience working in printing plants and knowledge of printing processes.
- Experience in Systems Analysis, specifically bridging the gap between user needs and technical implementation.
- Experience building and maintaining documentation for complex legacy and modern systems.

The annual base pay range for this role is between:
$100,000-$120,000 USD
