POSITION SUMMARY

The SWPPP & Vegetation Senior Project Engineer provides technical environmental compliance support for McCarthy's solar projects. The position requires a thorough understanding of environmental regulatory requirements, project-specific mitigation measures, and construction execution across multiple states. This role supports project teams through design reviews, preconstruction planning, field inspections, technical documentation, environmental training, and coordination of SWPPP and vegetation-related activities. Strong project coordination, communication, and organizational skills are required to manage assigned deliverables, track project status, and help resolve environmental issues in a timely manner. Working knowledge of internal databases and project management systems is needed to fulfill job duties.

Additional responsibilities include providing technical support, making presentations, participating in project meetings, delivering training, preparing technical guidance, and performing other duties as assigned. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide technical support for stormwater management, vegetation management, and project-level environmental compliance on assigned renewable energy construction projects.
  • Develop and maintain revegetation plans, sampling and analysis plans, environmental work plans, and project specifications.
  • Perform preconstruction soil and vegetation surveys to support planning, estimating, design development, and construction execution.
  • Support design and preconstruction planning by identifying project-specific environmental requirements; review civil and SWPPP designs for regulatory compliance, constructability, sequencing, and environmental risk, and communicate recommendations to the project team.
  • Participate in pursuit, preconstruction, estimating, project kickoff, schedule review, environmental planning, and construction planning meetings.
  • Coordinate with external engineering firms, environmental consultants, regulatory agencies, and other project partners on environmental requirements and technical deliverables.
  • Coordinate project environmental kickoff meetings and recurring check-ins; document action items, decisions, and follow-up needs.
  • Conduct preconstruction and operational site visits, field inspections, and follow-up assessments; document observations and support resolution of environmental issues.
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and field teams on SWPPP-related activities, costs, schedules, and corrective actions to support environmental compliance and project timelines.
  • Provide field guidance and environmental compliance training to project teams and subcontractors on SWPPP and related environmental requirements.
  • Provide technical input to Environmental Managers and the SWPPP & Vegetation Director on project environmental strategy, process improvements, and program implementation.
  • Promote a proactive culture of environmental compliance, safety, accountability, and collaboration across project teams.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, soil science, environmental engineering, civil engineering, construction management, or a closely related field.
  • Passionate commitment to applying technical knowledge, innovation, and continuous improvement to soil, stormwater, vegetation, and environmental compliance challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable, and courteous service to colleagues, contractors, clients, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple project assignments, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time and visit active construction sites.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience related to construction, environmental compliance, stormwater inspections, environmental site assessments, or a related field.
  • Experience with ArcGIS or similar geographic information systems.
  • Experience with stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) design, review, implementation, inspection, and corrective-action tracking.
  • Experience with environmental compliance documentation, project controls, construction scheduling, and coordination of technical deliverables across multiple disciplines.
