Position SummaryThe SVP & Practice Leader, Retiree Healthcare is a P&L leadership role responsible for setting and executing market strategies, driving growth, leading sales and marketing, and business development initiatives, and shaping carrier and product strategy for the retiree healthcare segment. The Practice Leader serves primarily a market-facing role, building and deepening relationships with plan sponsors, union funds, public sector clients, and broker partners. This is a player-coach role: the SVP leads by example in the market while building a team capable of scaled growth.
ResponsibilitiesP&L Leadership
- Own the Retiree Healthcare P&L, including revenue growth, margin management, and financial reporting to division leadership.
- Set annual growth targets and operating plans, accountable for segment performance.
- Collaborate with Finance and GST on budgeting, forecasting, and business reporting.
Market Strategy
- Define and execute the go-to-market strategy for Retiree Healthcare, including target segments (labor unions, public sector, private sector), geographic priorities, and channel strategy.
- Monitor competitive dynamics, regulatory changes, and Medicare market trends; translate into strategic adjustments.
- Represent Amwins Benefits at industry events, conferences, and with key brokers and carrier partners.
Carrier & Product Strategy
- Lead carrier relationship management for Group Medicare Advantage (MA/MA-PD), Part D EGWP, Group Medicare Supplement, and emerging retiree benefit products.
- Drive annual carrier rebid processes to deliver cost savings and competitive product positioning for plan sponsors.
- Partner with carriers to develop differentiated product offerings and preferred pricing for Amwins Benefits clients.
Team Leadership
- Build, support, and develop the Retiree Healthcare sales, sales support, and marketing teams.
- Manage talent and build a high-performance culture.
- Collaborate with the TPA operations leadership on shared technology direction and client service delivery.
Player-Coach Sales Leadership
- Maintain an active market presence; personally engage key prospects and clients to model consultative selling and reinforce the Retiree Healthcare value proposition.
- Success is measured by team and segment performance.
- Serve as a visible leader and subject matter expert in the retiree healthcare market.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with the Retiree Healthcare team leadership and Amwins Benefits GST (Group Support Team) on actuarial support, marketing, HR, and legal matters.
- Partner with the Amwins Benefits Division President on strategy and communications.
Executive Qualifications- 10+ years of experience in employee benefits, with 5+ years focused on retiree healthcare (Medicare Advantage, EGWP, Group Supplement, or related products).
- Ability to lead and develop sales and marketing teams.
- Deep understanding of the labor union and/or public sector benefits market.
- Strong carrier relationship management experience.
- Excellent communication and executive presence; ability to represent the Amwins Benefits, Retiree Healthcare practice at the senior leadership level.
- Experience in a carrier, TPA, broker/consultant, or benefits technology firm serving retirees.
- Familiarity with Medicare regulatory landscape (CMS, Part D, EGWP compliance).
- Existing relationships with union fund administrators, public sector HR/benefits directors, or retiree benefits consultants.

Pursuant to California regulation, the compensation range for this position is as stated and includes eligibility for performance-based bonuses.
California Pay Range
$275,000-$350,000 USD
