Full Job Description
Position Summary

Sustaining engineers work in a fast-paced environment to help solve production and customer problems encountered during assembly, test and initial customer use of aerospace hydraulic components (hydraulic pumps, motors, AC/DC motor pumps, PTUs, actuators, valves, reservoirs, accumulators, filter modules, etc).

You will be working closely with various cross-functional departments (Production, Quality, Manufacturing, Design Engineering, Procurement, Contracts, etc) to drive robust solutions in product design, assembly processes, manufacturing techniques, test system design, and unit testing procedures.

In this position, you will be expected to prioritize tasks to meet production needs, collaborate with cross-functional teams, provide thorough solutions quickly, lead problem solving teams, and become proficient in hydraulic component and systems design.

Essential Functions
  • Participates in operations alignment meetings where production status and challenges are discussed and prioritized.
  • Utilizes formal problem-solving tools (fishbone, 5-why, 6D, etc) to investigate production test failures and / or customer returns.
  • Creates detailed instructions to direct and document steps taken during failure investigations.
  • Witnesses assembly, disassembly, and testing of hydraulic components in order to analyze data, identify issues, and document results using various software (MS Office, Solumina, Lotus Notes, etc.)
  • Interfaces with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders to communicate status of investigations and gain support for deliverables needed to close out failure investigations.
  • Works with test equipment and software engineers to develop and support test procedures, instructions and fixtures to ensure compliance with requirements and improve efficiency and safety.
  • Provides technical input on Process and Design Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (PFMEA / DFMEA).
  • Creates hydraulic schematics as necessary in support of test setups necessary to complete failure investigations.
  • Reviews product specifications, engineering drawings, and assembly instructions to ensure conformance of products to requirements.
  • Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions, engineering change orders, and improvements to engineering management or the design team.
  • Understands measurement techniques to drive investigations internally and externally.
  • Relates machining processing to unit operation and failure modes.
  • Reviews supplier waivers to determine if non-conforming parts or materials are suitable for use.
  • Participates in cross-functional continuous improvement activities (Kaizen, High Performing Team etc)
  • Maintains current level of professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and/or participating in professional associations.
  • Shares specialized knowledge with others. May represent the company on specific projects or engineering tasks.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in an engineering or science technical discipline required.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 3-5 years of related experience.
  • Has working knowledge of engineering domain principles and techniques, product functionality, industry practices, regulations, and policies. General knowledge of other related engineering and technical areas.
  • Proficient with engineering design and analysis tools (e.g. computer-aided design or modeling systems); ability to use standard software packages. May require capability using specialized software applications or languages.
  • Ability to work with general objectives regarding projects and team goals; applies judgment in selecting procedures and techniques that should be applied. Works collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate status, actions, recommendations, and other technical information with clarity and precision. Responsive to inquiries from other engineering and business teams.
