About the Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Sustaining Capital Project Manager to join our team in Goldfield District Project in Goldfield, Nevada.

Reporting to the Project Director, the role is responsible for leading and managing various miscellaneous projects on the Goldfield Project site, which will ensure the LOM is extended. The Sustaining Capital Project Manager will drive key projects by leading disciplines such as Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls, Permitting, Environmental, Safety, Construction Management and corporate objectives and messaging.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in projects at various stages of development, from scoping, PFS, FS, Detailed Engineering and Execution. The candidate must understand engineering, design of large-scale mining operations, and oversight of project planning, procurement, construction, and commissioning, with knowledge of North American construction approaches. The projects which this candidate will manage will vary in scale, however they must have successfully delivered projects >$25M.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Project Management

  • Oversee all Sustaining Capital Projects on site including the following functions: Engineering, Procurement & Contracting, Construction & Commissioning, Safety, Project Controls, Operations Readiness, Permitting, Environmental Compliance and Community Relations.
    • Ensure that the project adheres to project timelines, budgets, and technical requirements.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams, including Centerra employees and consultants to ensure project success.
  • Ensure adoption of best practices in project management standards throughout all phases of the project - increasing the level of rigor on project management as the project develops
  • Manage project risk by identifying potential challenges and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, community representatives, and executive leadership, to ensure transparency and effective project execution. Lead reporting on the project.


Engineering Management

  • Develop the engineering strategies for the various projects, including sourcing to appropriate firms, etc.
  • Oversee all engineering activities for the various phases of the various projects (scoping to detailed engineering).
  • Lead fit-for-purpose, which aim to optimize costs, schedule and complexity.
  • Develop and implement the necessary engineering standards, best practices, and quality control measures for the project.
  • Develop and lead field campaigns to refine the input information for the engineering design.


Procurement & Contracting

  • Develop the Construction and Packaging strategies to align with execution strategies.
  • Oversee and develop/refine the procurement process to ensure efficient contract execution.
  • Participate in bid walks, contract negotiations and dispute resolution to maintain the required progress and budgets.


Safety

  • Ensure that Safety requirements (Centerra & MSHA) are being respected during studies and execution.
  • Ensure that all activities on site are done safely and proactively, and that Centerra core values are maintained.


Construction & Commissioning

  • Develop Execution Approach which includes identifying critical scopes, and phasing of work to help de-risk the overall project.
  • Work with the engineering firms and SMEs to develop strong commissioning plans, and integrate these plans into the overall schedule and budgets. Ensure project construction and performance is achieved with regards to cost, schedule, quality, safety and value.


Project Controls

  • Develop the Project Budget and map to the Procurement and Contracting Strategies.
  • Review and manage the budget of the various workstreams while maintaining oversight on overall spending and contingency management.
    • Oversee the project budgeting planning process and working with project controls resources forecast costs and monitoring expenditure to ensure effective cost control.
  • Submit AFEs for the respective projects to Centerra Leadership.
  • Develop project progress metrics to easily report up to Senior Management on project status.
  • Develop detailed project schedule which includes all workstreams and highlights critical tasks and focus.
  • Oversee the project budgeting planning process and working with project controls resources forecast costs and monitoring expenditure to ensure effective cost control.


Operations Readiness

  • Work collaboratively with the Operations to develop Operation Readiness transition plans to ramp up execution projects.


Environmental Compliance & Permitting

  • Working closely with the Snr. Director of Permitting to develop permitting strategies and associated action plans to complete require technical studies to support future permitting efforts
  • Lead field campaigns to collect technical field data.
  • Work directly with permitting teams and agencies to develop required project permits.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with the permitting team to ensure that all aspects of the project meet or exceed environmental obligations and permitting requirements.
About You

Our ideal candidate will possess the following skillset and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred, with significant previous experience in engineering, study, and construction of mining projects, including a good understanding of mining and ore processing equipment. Registration in a professional association desirable.
  • ~10+ years of experience in mining development projects from study to start-up. Successfully executed projects of >$25M.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mining, processing and construction management preferably in a gold heap leach situation.
  • Extensive experience in managing engineering teams for large projects. This includes development and management of scopes of work, schedules, and budgets as well as co-ordination of different engineering disciplines, and working with engineering consultants, vendors, contractors and other stakeholders.
    • Experience with EPCM, EPC, PCM and other project execution models. Experience in managing third-party engineering resources.
  • Strong emphasis of safety and emphasis on doing work properly - willing to step up and correct unsafe actions. Proven ability to create a strong culture of performance with zero harm, health and safety as a priority. Understanding of MSHA requirements.
  • Demonstrated strength in operational readiness and ability to manage smooth transition from capital projects execution to operations.
  • Contract management experience including progress monitoring, dispute resolution, and earned value management.
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulations for Mines in Nevada preferred.
  • Knowledge of governance, environmental and compliance practices with proven ability to identify and manage project risk.
  • Demonstrated management abilities in both technical and operational settings.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal Regulations and NEPA, RCRA, compliance and permitting including Water Rights is preferred.
