The role:We're hiring our first full-time supply chain team member. We already serve as Engineer of Record on roughly $10B of capital projects across utility-scale energy and data center infrastructure, and that number is growing fast. Every one of those projects depends on transformers, switchgear, inverters, structural steel, cable, and the factories that make them. This person will lead our engagement with that supply chain.
This isn't procurement the way an EPC does it: put out RFPs, collect bids, place orders, chase everyone onto the same page. We think about it the way the best high-growth product companies do, as a supply chain we build, foster, and actively work to improve. There's no silver bullet. It's a thousand lead bullets: deep relationships built on trust, being the best customer our partners have, and constantly finding ways to move faster together.
Most manufacturers in this industry are built for today's pace. The projects we design will ask for far more, far faster. The job is to make sure our suppliers understand the scale of demand that is coming and get ready for it. You'll work closely with our engineering team, understand what they need, and help our suppliers optimize around rate so they can deliver capacity well beyond what they're used to.
We are early. There is no procurement department and no established process, and we're not looking for someone to build a bureaucracy. Anything repetitive in this job should be aggressively automated with AI, and we'll expect you to drive a lot of that (after we ramp you up on the building blocks).
This role is in-person in San Francisco, CA and will include travel to suppliers, factories, and job sites.
What we're looking for:
- You've led supply chains for complex industrial equipment and systems, ideally in energy or construction
- You understand how a factory actually works: capacity, throughput, lead times, and what it really takes to add a line or a shift
- You think about rate, not just the next order. You've helped a supplier, or your own operation, scale output well past where it started
- Suppliers trust you. They pick up when you call, and they tell you the truth about their constraints
- A translator: you can turn what our engineers need into something a factory can build, and turn what a factory can build into something our engineers can design around
- An AI bull: you already automate everything repetitive with AI, or you're clearly on that ramp and can show it
- Mission alignment and desire to build a future of abundance
Experience: 5 to 20 years in supply chain, sourcing, procurement, or manufacturing operations for energy, construction, or other complex industrial systems. An engineering background is a plus.
This is probably not the role for you if:
- You see supply chain as purchase orders, expediting, and negotiating on price
- You'd rather manage a process from a desk than walk a factory floor
- You need a large procurement team and established systems around you to be effective
- You want a 9-to-5
Bonus:- Existing relationships with manufacturers of transformers, switchgear, inverters, trackers, or other long-lead energy equipment
- Experience standing up or scaling manufacturing capacity, at a supplier or an OEM
- Supply chain experience at a fast-scaling hardware product company (automotive, aerospace, robotics, or similar)
