JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Superintendent - Water/Wastewater Treatment

LOCATION: Auburn Hills, Michigan / *varies*

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced Water/Wastewater Superintendent to lead field operations on industrial and heavy commercial construction projects. This role is responsible for overseeing daily site activities, coordinating subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, supporting safety initiatives, and ensuring quality standards are met throughout the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing water and wastewater construction projects, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence. Travel and overtime may be required based on project needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision of field operations, subcontractors, and site personnel.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and safety-focused work environment.
  • Review and understand project contracts, drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Partner with Project Managers and Scheduling teams to develop, maintain, and update project schedules.
  • Identify potential design, constructability, or code-related issues and communicate findings to project leadership.
  • Assist in planning project logistics, including site layout, temporary utilities, workforce planning, equipment needs, quality control, and safety procedures.
  • Verify subcontractors have provided required documentation before starting work, including insurance, executed agreements, and safety-related requirements.
  • Ensure required permits, licenses, and site postings are obtained and maintained.
  • Coordinate with inspection agencies and support resolution of any identified deficiencies.
  • Lead regular subcontractor coordination and safety meetings.
  • Review daily field reports and monitor project progress.
  • Review and approve subcontractor payment applications in accordance with project procedures.
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients, inspectors, subcontractors, vendors, and the public.
  • Support and enforce company and subcontractor safety programs, orientations, and pre-task planning activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support project and business objectives.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 10 years of experience managing large-scale industrial or heavy commercial construction projects for a general contractor.
  • Water/Wastewater construction experience required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Current CPR/AED certification.
  • Current OSHA 30-Hour certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and schedules.
  • Proficiency in coordinating multiple stakeholders and managing project priorities.


PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Experience overseeing complex mechanical, civil, and infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated success maintaining project schedules, quality standards, and safety performance.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety regulations and best practices.


WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Fast-paced construction environment with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Position may require work around construction equipment, elevated work areas, dust, noise, and other job-site conditions.
  • May oversee multiple project activities simultaneously.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Ability to walk construction sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to navigate uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, and active construction areas.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, team members, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Ability to comply with all company and job-site safety requirements.
