Position Description

Job Summary:

The Milling/Paving Superintendent will oversee and manage all aspects of milling and paving operations on construction sites. The ideal candidate will ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards while maintaining a safe working environment.

Essential Functions:

  1. Dedication. Plan, coordinate, and supervise milling and paving activities, ensuring adherence to project timelines and specifications.
  2. Humility. Lead and mentor a team of operators, laborers, and subcontractors, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  3. Focused. Conduct regular inspections and assessments of work performed to ensure compliance with engineering standards and quality expectations.
  4. Protect family and friends. Enforce safety protocols and regulations, conduct safety meetings and training sessions to promote a culture of safety on-site.
  5. Efficiency. Manage equipment, materials, and labor resources efficiently to optimize productivity and minimize downtime.
  6. Respect and engage. Act as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and project managers, providing updates on progress and addressing any concerns.
  7. Results matter. Identify and resolve issues that may arise during milling and paving operations, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  8. Measurement. Maintain accurate records of daily operations, including labor hours, material usage, and equipment maintenance.


Position Requirements

Requirements, Education and Experience:

  1. 10+ years of relevant construction experience.
  2. Extensive knowledge of paving, milling, and grading operations, required.
  3. Must be able to accept out of town work and/or night and occasional weekend work.
  4. Extensive knowledge of survey and layout.
  5. Excellent leadership skills, attention to detail, communication, and ability to collaborate
  6. Must have the ability to multi-task and make quick and thoughtful decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  8. Basic computer skills required.
  9. Must have a valid driver's license.
  10. Authorized to work in the U.S.

Travel:

This position requires regional travel. It is anticipated that most of the work will be in the New York/ Vermont region, although a wider geographic reach could be expected.?

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

This position will be highly mobile and work in a very dynamic environment, depending on the time of year and operational workload. Heavy work includes moving objects up to 50 lb. or more. This position works on or near moving mechanical parts and loud equipment. Requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time as well as lifting, pulling, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, walking, reaching, driving, and repetitive motion.
