Role Overview/Purpose: The Superintendent - Mill and Paste Plant is accountable for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of all fixed plant and material handling systems supporting underground mining and processing operations. This role provides strategic and day-to-day leadership to ensure consistent execution of site standards, high equipment availability, disciplined operating practices, and continuous improvement across all shifts.
The Superintendent directly leads cross-shift Superintendents and collaborates closely with maintenance, operations, technical, and support teams to deliver stable, safe, and efficient production.
Primary Responsibilities: Safety, Health & Environmental Leadership
- Act as a visible and engaged safety leader across mill, paste, hoist, and crushing operations.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, corporate, and site safety standards, including critical risk controls.
- Own operational safety systems, procedures, and permits related to fixed plant and hoisting activities.
- Lead incident investigations and ensure high-quality root cause analysis and closure of corrective actions.
- Promote a strong safety culture through leadership presence, coaching, and accountability.
Operational Performance & Plant Stability
- Provide overall leadership for mill processing, paste plant operations, underground crushing, and hoisting systems.
- Ensure stable operations that consistently meet production, recovery, quality, and availability targets.
- Identify and resolve operational constraints impacting throughput, reliability, and safety.
- Maintain strong engagement with maintenance and reliability teams to reduce unplanned downtime.
Leadership & Cross-Shift Management
- Directly manage and coach cross-shift Superintendents to ensure alignment, consistency, and continuity across all shifts.
- Set and enforce clear expectations for leadership behavior, decision-making, and accountability.
- Ensure effective shift handover, communication, and issue escalation processes are in place.
- Provide mentorship and development opportunities for frontline leadership and supervisors.
Budgeting & Cost Control
- Develop, manage, and control operating and capital budgets for mill, paste, hoist, and crushing operations.
- Monitor operating costs including power, consumables, reagents, maintenance, and contractors.
- Drive cost optimization initiatives while maintaining safety, asset integrity, and production reliability.
- Ensure accurate forecasting and alignment with operational and business plans.
Training, Competency & Workforce Development
- Ensure all operators, supervisors, and support personnel are trained, competent, and authorized for their roles.
- Own training strategies for plant operations, hoisting systems, paste plant processes, and emergency response.
- Maintain compliance with competency frameworks, training matrices, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop succession plans and strengthen leadership capability within the operational teams.
Standards, Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Own and enforce site operating standards, procedures, and work practices for fixed plant and hoisting systems.
- Ensure consistent application of standards across all shifts and operational areas.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on plant stability, risk reduction, and performance optimization.
- Support effective use of site systems such as CMMS, process control, condition monitoring, and reporting tools.
Contractor & Vendor Management
- Manage contractor performance related to plant operations, maintenance, and specialized services.
- Ensure contractors comply with all safety, operational, and site standard requirements.
- Collaborate with OEMs and vendors to improve equipment reliability, process efficiency, and lifecycle value.

What You Bring to the Table:- Engineering, Metallurgy, or relevant technical diploma/degree, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in mill processing and fixed plant operations within a mining environment.
- Strong exposure to paste plants, hoisting systems, and underground crushing operations.
- Proven experience leading large, multi-shift operational teams.
- Demonstrated accountability for operational budgets and cost control.

Working Conditions:- The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 7 days on and 7 off (12 hour)
- Although you will be assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours, and your work hours may vary with the needs of the company.
- Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts.
