ABOUT THE ROLE
The Superintendent, MEP leads mechanical, electrical, and plumbing field execution for a new data center build - owning day-to-day site operations for this scope in a high-stakes, mission-critical environment. Reporting to the Construction Manager and Director, Construction, this role drives schedule, coordinates trades, and enforces safety and quality from mobilization through turnover. Superintendents are the standard on a Hut 8 site: what you walk past, you approve.
Some of the key responsibilities you should expect are the following:
Electrical Systems
Supervise installation of MV/LV distribution: switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS, busway/busduct, PDUs, and branch circuits to the rack. Enforce cable management, termination and torque documentation, grounding, and labeling standards, and coordinate NETA acceptance testing and energization sequencing with the Superintendent, HV and the Electrical SME.
Mechanical & Cooling Systems
Supervise chilled water plants, air and liquid cooling systems, CRAH/CDU installation, piping and insulation, and hydronic balancing. Manage pipe flushing, pressure testing, and cleanliness protocols - contamination in a critical cooling loop is a commissioning-stopping event.
Trade Sequencing in Dense Space
Own trade stacking and sequencing across electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and controls in congested white space, galleries, and yards. Run BIM-supported coordination in the field and resolve clashes before they're installed clashes.
Commissioning Handoff
Drive completion of installation checklists and prerequisites supporting Level 1-3 commissioning, and support Cx execution through Levels 4-5 with the CXQC Field Manager - your installation quality is the Cx schedule's foundation.
Safety & Quality Enforcement
Enforce electrical safety (NFPA 70E), LOTO, energized work permits, and hot work controls as systems progressively energize around ongoing construction. Hold MEP trade partners to first-time quality with documented QC.
Planning, Documentation & Issues
Own the MEP three-week look-ahead, daily coordination, and progress reporting. Drive MEP RFIs and field issues to closure with the Project Engineer (MEP) and discipline engineers, and keep test records and as-builts current as systems complete.
ABOUT YOU
- What we're looking for:
- 7+ years supervising electrical and/or mechanical trades on data center, semiconductor, hospital, or heavy industrial projects; mission-critical strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of MV/LV power distribution, standby generation, UPS systems, and hydronic/liquid cooling plants, including testing and energization practices.
- Experience driving Level 1-5 commissioning prerequisites and turnover documentation inside a live Cx program.
- Strong trade-sequencing instincts in congested, schedule-critical space; fluent in look-ahead planning and manpower loading.
- Safety leadership including NFPA 70E, LOTO, and energized-facility transitions; OSHA 30 preferred.
- Pipe cleanliness, flushing, and pressure-test discipline for critical hydronic systems.
- Comfortable with Procore/ACC, BIM field use, and full MEP drawing packages.
- Clear documentation habits: dailies, QC records, and test documentation.
