Description

As a Superintendent Maintenance you will supervise maintenance personnel for effective maintenance of Central Shop. You will also oversee the preventive maintenance, overhaul, repair, and replacement of equipment.

  • Directs the maintenance activities of the assigned craft in their area of responsibility.
  • Ensures that company and contract maintenance employees are in compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Analyzes all work requests to determine necessary repair or replacement and advise as to estimate manpower and material requirements.
  • Determines needs for maintenance materials, warehouse stock, rental equipment and/or contract services.
  • Helps in the counseling, training, development and appraisal of the performance of maintenance hourly employees in their assigned craft.
  • Assists in the development and coordination of turnaround work.
  • Attends daily meetings to assist in accomplishing scheduled work and resolving key and important maintenance problems.
  • Holds toolbox safety meetings and inspections, necessary to achieve safety goals while communicating changes in company policy, procedures, and objectives to employees.
  • Provides judgment on the repair versus replacement of equipment.
  • Supervises and participates in the development of reliable and efficient equipment in order to better our production.
  • Analyzes problems that may arise and finds a workable solution that is practical as well as cost efficient. Implements safe work habits for all employees and supervises outside service contractors so they might function efficiently.
  • Ensures that the necessary equipment is ordered and an adequate supply of parts is maintained in stock by utilizing SAP and interaction with the Warehouse and Planning Departments.
  • Maintains and evaluates equipment history through the SAP system, and works with the Warehouse on completing material listing for SAP.
  • Monitors quality and quantity of work being done by outside repair shops and suppliers of equipment replacement parts.
  • Prepares monthly activities report on I&E work for management.
  • Collaborates with lead technicians in problem solving to achieve total reliability in the most economical means.
  • Performs all necessary functions to complete Maintenance projects.
  • Oversees the work of the Planners and Materials Coordinator.
  • Audits the work order system for volume, costs, flow, proper application of the priority hierarchy, and manpower usage.
  • Develops and maintains databases and hard files essential for the effective operation of the planning and scheduling areas of responsibility.
  • Develops and publishes reports for management pertaining to costs, manpower utilization, productivity, reliability and forecasting. Reports will range from plant-wide all the way down to equipment-specific.
  • Reviews overall planning department performance and develops strategies for improvements as needs are identified.
  • Prepares and supplies drawings, sketches, specifications, procedures, etc.
  • Oversees the operation and stewardship of the Electrical Distribution System from the 161kV breakers in the main switchyard (DC-0) down to the individual loads throughout the refinery.
  • Represents the Refinery in the Electrical Safety and Reliability Network (ESARN) and reports to the Refinery Leadership Team (RLT) on ESARN activity that affects the Refinery.


This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Memphis Refinery, required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 10 years of maintenance experience in a refinery or similar industry required.
