The Superintendent is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements, quality standards, and workmanship expectations. This role provides leadership, direction, and oversight to Foremen and field personnel, managing both self-perform and subcontracted workforces to achieve project objectives.
The Superintendent leads and coordinates multiple construction activities, ensuring efficient execution, workforce productivity, resource allocation, stakeholder collaboration, and compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality requirements in a dynamic project environment.
What You'll Do Here:- Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, subcontractors, and consultants in compliance with the company's Environmental Health and Safety Program and applicable occupational health and safety legislation.
- Promote safety in all activities and actively participate in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, field-level risk assessments (FLRAs), and crew mentorship.
- Provide leadership and guidance to project teams through safety meetings, site inspections, and ongoing coaching.
- Track and report on project quality control, resource requirements, client relations, and labour relations.
- Ensure compliance with all project assignments, policies, procedures, and contractual requirements.
- Lead and support Foremen and crews on productivity initiatives, identifying and resolving challenges that impact performance.
- Monitor work performance and collaborate with field teams to meet production targets and project objectives.
- Execute project plans and budgets while ensuring field operations are completed safely, efficiently, and to schedule.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and project requirements and translate them into prioritized work plans.
- Understand project scope and sequencing, plan and prioritize work activities, and effectively allocate labour, equipment, and materials to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
- Contribute to the development and execution of construction work plans and schedules.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and project leadership to identify labour, equipment, and material requirements and adjust resources as necessary to meet production forecasts, schedules, and budgets.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative work environment while ensuring adherence to company policies and collective agreements where applicable.
- Build and maintain a high-performing team through leadership, coaching, training, mentoring, and team development.
- Oversee daily production reporting and ensure accurate documentation of work progress.
- Ensure company-owned and rented tools, equipment, and assets are properly maintained, documented, and accounted for.
- Maintain accountability for quality control, field administration, and operational performance across assigned project teams.
What You Bring to the Team:- 5-10 years of experience in a Superintendent position within the construction, heavy civil, infrastructure, industrial, or related construction sector.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary field teams, including Foremen, Project Coordinators, Field Engineers, subcontractors, and craft employees.
- Experience managing work in a self-performing construction environment.
- Strong understanding of applicable occupational health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and project documentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and construction management software.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
- Experience delivering construction projects in sectors such as civil infrastructure, transportation, utilities, industrial, commercial, institutional, or municipal construction.
- Strong knowledge of scheduling, quality management, productivity tracking, and resource planning.
- Experience working in unionized and non-unionized environments is considered an asset.
The expected pay range for this role is $110,000 - $150,000 per year.
