About this Role

R.R. Cassidy is looking for a Substation Superintendent who oversees the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical substations, directing crews and ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to code/utility specifications. This is a field leadership role combining technical electrical knowledge with people and project management.

What You'll Do

Supervision & Leadership

  • Supervise foremen, journeyman/apprentice electricians, and crew members on substation construction or maintenance projects
  • Assign daily tasks, manage crew schedules, and coordinate multiple crews across one or more job sites
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate field personnel; enforce discipline and performance standards

Project & Technical Oversight

  • Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of substation equipment (transformers, breakers, switchgear, bus work, control systems)
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and construction specifications
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and utility/client representatives on project execution
  • Track progress against schedule and budget; report status to project management

Safety

  • Enforce all safety policies and procedures, including lockout/tagout, arc-flash protection, and PPE compliance
  • Conduct or oversee job briefings, safety meetings, and site inspections
  • Investigate incidents/near-misses and implement corrective actions
  • Maintain a zero-incident safety culture on site

Materials & Equipment

  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment needs, and tool/vehicle maintenance
  • Manage inventory and minimize waste or downtime due to shortages

Administrative

  • Complete daily reports, timesheets, safety documentation, and quality control records
  • Participate in pre-job planning and post-job reviews
What You'll Bring

Experience

  • 5–10+ years of experience in high-voltage substation construction/maintenance, typically including prior experience as a foreman or lead
  • Demonstrated experience with substation equipment up to 500kV
