What We Are Looking For:We're seeking a
Substation Engineer to lead substation design projects. This role blends technical expertise, project management, and client collaboration in a fast-paced environment. Looking for someone to work hybrid out of our Madison, WI office.
What You Will Be Doing:- Embrace, uphold, and live out PSE's core values around People, Problem-Solving, and Progress.
- Support and lead substation engineering projects, including brownfield design, physical design, and protection & control systems.
- Develop engineering designs and drawings, including one-line/three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and AC/DC schematics.
- Provide technical consulting services across substation design, system support, and utility operations.
- Manage projects from design through construction, including budgeting, scheduling, and client communication.
- Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and contractors to ensure successful project delivery.
- Conduct site visits for inspections, construction oversight, and quality assurance.
- Support construction activities, including installation coordination, testing, and commissioning of electrical facilities.
- Perform technical reviews and quality control to ensure compliance with engineering standards and client requirements.
What You Will Need:Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain
- 5+ years of experience in transmission, distribution, or substation engineering
- Strong knowledge of substation design, protection & control systems, and utility operations
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of electric utility systems.
- Experience in engineering and design of electrical substations.
- Experience in power system protection, design, and operations.
- Experience in overcurrent coordination and SEL relay settings development is preferred.
- Working knowledge of computer software including AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam, MS Excel, and MS Word is required.
- Working knowledge of applicable NEC, IEEE, and ANSI standards and electric codes is preferred.
Compensation:- Salary Range: $110,204 - $127,276 annually.
This salary range reflects the anticipated base salary for
five to ten years of relevant experience. The successful candidate will be placed at a level that is commensurate with the candidate's relevant years of experience, education, and technical expertise.
