Full Job Description
General Summary

The Structures Engineer III plans, develops, coordinates and directs complex major engineering projects using established policies, procedures and Best Practices. This position prepares engineering data in accordance with manufacturer specifications and instruction manuals, STC's, FAA regulations, Duncan Aviation approved procedures, acceptable industry practices, and customer expectations; and makes independent engineering decisions based on data, experience and mathematical analysis. In addition, the Engineer III provides engineering technical assistance to team members; supports aircraft technical reviews and surveys; and demonstrates a high level of commitment to customer service and satisfaction.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Makes engineering decisions by defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions based on data from analysis, experience, familiarity with, and application of FAA Regulations and guidance, including, but not limited to, Advisory Circulars, Type Certificate Data Sheets, Maintenance Manuals, Illustrated Parts Catalogs, Supplemental Type Certificates, Technical Standard Orders, etc. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Applies advanced mathematical concepts to engineering solutions.


  1. Supports project requirements by providing complete and accurate engineering data (drawings, test plans, electrical load analysis, structural analysis, reports, parts lists and related supporting documents) that meets or exceeds all regulatory requirements and established project timelines. Learns and efficiently utilizes the company's design and engineering data base of product design. Solves problems and deals with a variety of situations where only limited information exists. Assists less experienced and new staff to increase the overall skill level of the team on a day-to-day basis.


  1. Reviews service plans and sales proposals for engineering requirements, and ensures engineering tasks and expected hours are accurate and complete by communicating discrepancies and issues to the Engineering Supervisor. Supports senior engineer activities by researching and acquiring technical data, design/development recommendations, and estimated engineering hours as necessary for Customer support and Sales proposal development, including change order requests, as directed.


  1. Designs, reviews and provides engineering department approval for avionics equipment installations and/or interior assemblies/installations by developing and utilizing knowledge of the company's service, materials, products, and equipment capabilities and limitations. Learns and implements Design for Manufacturability (DFM) techniques. As needed, instructs production technicians on construction and/or installation methods and procedures in accordance with Engineering processes and procedures, manufacturers' specifications, FAA regulations, and customer expectations. Assists production teams with system turn-on, troubleshooting, and testing.


  1. Provides technical assistance to sales team, project managers, shop managers, engineering and production team members to support sales activities, aircraft and continuous improvement projects. Participates in identifying and establishing best practices and preferred processes. Works to continually improve and develop basic design and engineering skills.


  1. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

  • Previous experience working with the FAA preferred
