Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer Team Leader to oversee our cold-formed / light gauge steel department in Fairfax, VA.
If you're ready to manage projects from start to finish while leading a team of 4-5 structural professionals, you'll find this role both challenging and rewarding.

What You'll Do

Lead and Execute Structural Engineering Design
  • Perform engineering analyses, calculations, and complete structural project designs.
  • Prepare and interpret drawings, layouts, and custom or standard details; redline and lay out full drawing sets for complex projects.
  • Conduct field surveys, prepare field reports, and ensure compliance with engineering standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Respond to reviewer comments and coordinate with other disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.

Manage Projects from Kickoff Through Completion
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they stay on schedule and within budget.
  • Lead kickoff meetings, monitor progress, evaluate financial performance, and manage monthly billings and collections.
  • Review contracts, scopes of work, proposed changes, and enforce project methods and quality control procedures.
  • Handle proposal development, bidding, additional service requests, and printing of construction documents.
  • Coordinate internal schedules with client expectations.

Lead, Mentor, and Develop a High-Performing Team
  • Supervise, mentor, and coordinate a team of junior staff; assign work and manage production to support project goals.
  • Provide quality control reviews, enforce standards, and ensure adherence to project delivery processes.
  • Manage team-related HR responsibilities and foster a collaborative, high-quality work environment.
  • Oversee financial performance for the team and maintain profitability.

Cultivate Client Relationships and Support Business Growth
  • Maintain and grow repeat business while developing new client relationships.
  • Negotiate fees, initiate additional services, and collaborate with marketing staff as needed.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, resolving issues and ensuring a high level of satisfaction.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for team members.
  • Request and justify staffing additions; participate in hiring and termination decisions.
  • Maintain project schedules, workload plans, and billing goals for the team.
  • Align internal schedules with client expectations.
  • Manage financial performance and ensure team profitability.

Salary: The salary range for this position is an estimate of $105,000-$150,000. A final compensation offer within this range will be based on factors including an individual's skill sets, experience, knowledge, and licensure and certifications.
