The questAs a forensic expert, you'll be solving some of the most peculiar and perplexing cases that come our way. No mystery is too small or too big for you to handle. Here's what you will typically be doing:
This is a technically demanding, challenging and most rewarding role requiring a thorough understanding of building science engineering and its application in failure investigations. You will:
- Perform and manage building science and structural failure investigations and determine root and cause of the failure and damage to buildings, foundations, structures, and building envelope systems.
- Attend client meetings and on-site inspections, perform surveys and condition assessments and gather evidence. Review technical documentation including drawings, standards, codes, regulations, material specifications, maintenance records, modifications records, etc. Perform Provincial Codes and Standards compliance analysis and reviews. Determine circumstances surrounding the incident by capturing data, photographs, videos, and interviewing parties associated with the incident. Safely secure evidence for further analysis, and presentation to client and/or in court if required.
- Collaborate with other experts and practice leads to deliver holistic and robust analytical reports to clients. Provide expert testimony in the court, if required.
- Coach and mentor early career technical staff to support their professional development.
- Assist with new business development and represent the company with professionalism and expertise in client interactions and industry events.
- Always follow HSE guidelines, procedures, and policies. Ensure safety of self, others, and the assets.
What's in your bag? - At least a bachelor's degree in civil, building science or architectural science engineering and P. Eng. designation.
- Minimum 6 years of experience of failure and damage analysis, design, construction, maintenance of structures and building envelope systems of commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial buildings and infrastructure.
- Concern for efficiency and strong analytical, organizational and time management skills.
- Curiosity, good judgment, sense of initiative.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to write clear and concise investigation reports.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and commitment to staying current with industry developments and continuous professional development.
