This position supports the COLUMBIA Class. The Manufacturing Engineering department provides engineering and design support for submarine construction. This position requires that the Engineer work in a design, build, and sustainment environment to develop build strategies and conceptualize methods and fixtures required for fabricating and assembling submarine components, structures, ship’s systems and associated modules.
Primary responsibilities for a manufacturing engineer include:
- Identification and development of methods and tools required by the shipbuilder,
- Structural analysis required to validate the design, and
- Supporting the delivery of the tooling from procurement through shipyard implementation.
Duties include development of designs for tooling and fixtures, preparation of Manufacturing Engineering Documents for sequence and alignment critical installations, and direct shipyard support. Daily interaction with related engineers/designers, shipyard trades, manufacturing vendors, and planning representatives from Groton, Quonset Point and Newport News is expected. Travel between Groton and Quonset Point may be required. This position may be located at Eagle Park or Groton based on department need.
Electric Boat offers Flexible Work Arrangements that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home. This varies from position to position based on the amount of classified material the department interacts with, as well as a few other variables.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Civil, Structural, Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of post graduate engineering experience
- A background in structural analysis and/or finite element analysis methods.
Preferred:
- Construction support experience.
- Experience with GD&T
- Working knowledge of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) standards and specifications
