Overview

Responsibilities

Summary : (Fully Remote / Virtual Role) The Structural Civil Engineer is responsible for risk management and technical underwriting of structural warranty enrollments, and technical support in the claims adjudication process. You will join a team of internal engineers and work closely with contract forensic engineers across the 48 contiguous states. You will assist home builders to manage their risk and improve the quality of housing and the experience of home ownership. This is a remote position with Frontdoor, the national leader in residential warranties.

Responsibilities:
  • Review geotechnical investigation reports and summarize the key findings.
  • Review forensic distress inventory reports and discuss findings with the engineer.
  • Review structural foundation plans and summarize key design features.
  • Review home inspections and discuss significant concerns with the inspector.
  • Conduct foundation tilt and deflection analysis using our proprietary software.
  • Write technical coverage reports describing structural distress findings.
  • Review repair plans for accuracy and value engineering opportunities.
  • Review repair contractor bids.
  • Conduct geologic hazard research, and compile, analyze and present the results.
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including peers, claims adjusters, inspectors, engineers, and builders.
  • Conduct occasional residential inspections generally in your local market.
  • May assume other duties as applied.

Qualifications

Required Skills:
  • Technical working knowledge about construction materials including soils, engineered fill, reinforced concrete, steel, and dimensional lumber
  • Understanding of underwriting, risk management practices, and claims adjusting, especially as they apply to the new home warranty industry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office especially advanced Excel applications and PowerPoint

Preferred Skills:
  • Proficiency in construction codes, technical standards, and regulations
  • Construction industry experience

Physical Role Requirements : Be seated at a computer intermittently for up to eight hours a day. Move up to 10 pounds occasionally, by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise repositioning objects. Sitting for long periods of time while using office equipment such as computers and phones. Repetitive motions using hands and digits; such as movement of wrists, hands and fingers while picking, pinching and typing during your normal working environment.

Minimum Education, Licensure and Professional Certification requirements: Bachelor's degree required from a four-year college or university

Minimum Experience required (number of years necessary to perform role) : 5+ years of professional experience required

Travel: Occasional travel with claims adjusters, sales reps, or managers to assist in coverage evaluations, arbitrations, or builder meeting

Other/State Specific

This role pays a base salary between $105,000 and $130,000 per annum, and your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, responsibilities, experience, and location.
