Job Overview:Position SummaryThe Strategic Sourcing Specialist II independently executes sourcing and procurement activities for materials, equipment, and services supporting utility-scale solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects. This role partners with supply chain leaders, engineering, estimating, construction, operations, project management, and suppliers to develop sourcing strategies, lead competitive sourcing events, evaluate supplier capabilities, negotiate commercial terms, manage supplier performance, and mitigate supply chain risk.
The ideal candidate combines strong analytical and commercial judgment with demonstrated sourcing experience, can manage multiple assignments with limited direction, and is prepared to own defined commodities, supplier relationships, or project procurement scopes.
Primary ResponsibilitiesSupplier Identification & Qualification- Identify, research, qualify, and recommend suppliers for assigned commodities, projects, and business requirements.
- Lead supplier capability assessments, reference checks, financial reviews, and preliminary risk evaluations.
- Coordinate supplier onboarding and maintain accurate approved-supplier records and qualification documentation.
- Analyze market trends, supplier economics, emerging technologies, and capacity constraints affecting solar, BESS, electrical, and construction-related commodities.
RFx Support & Competitive Bidding- Develop and administer RFx events from scope definition through award recommendation.
- Coordinate bid schedules, supplier communications, clarifications, and cross-functional technical and commercial evaluations.
- Perform bid normalization, total-cost-of-ownership analysis, and comparisons of pricing, lead time, technical compliance, quality, capacity, risk, and commercial terms.
- Prepare and present fact-based sourcing recommendations, negotiation strategies, and award analyses for approval.
Contract Negotiation & Commercial Management- Lead supplier contract negotiations covering pricing, payment, delivery, warranty, indemnity, limitation of liability, termination, and other commercial terms within delegated authority, escalating material business or legal risks as needed.
- Prepare bid tabulations, negotiation plans, commercial summaries, purchase recommendations, and contract documentation.
- Review, negotiate, and redline supplier agreements using approved templates and contracting standards; engage Legal, Finance, Risk, Quality, or project stakeholders for material exceptions or specialized guidance.
- Identify, quantify, document, and mitigate commercial and supply chain risks, including pricing, tariffs, logistics, capacity, schedule, warranty, and contractual exposure.
Supplier Relationship Management- Own day-to-day relationships with assigned suppliers and serve as the commercial point of contact for defined commodities or project scopes.
- Resolve supplier issues involving pricing, delivery, quality, documentation, and contractual commitments, escalating when business impact warrants.
- Lead supplier meetings, performance reviews, and business updates using defined KPIs, scorecards, and corrective-action plans.
- Drive supplier improvement, cost-reduction, resilience, and continuity initiatives and track actions through completion.
Procurement Analytics & Reporting- Maintain accurate supplier, pricing, contract, savings, and procurement records within company systems.
- Develop spend analyses, sourcing dashboards, vendor scorecards, and supplier performance reports for assigned scopes.
- Perform cost benchmarking, should-cost or total-cost analysis, market intelligence, and validated savings tracking.
- Translate demand forecasts, project schedules, and market data into sourcing actions and supply recommendations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration- Partner with Engineering, Estimating, Operations, Construction, Quality, Logistics, Finance, Legal, and Project Management to define requirements and execute sourcing plans.
- Interpret technical specifications, drawings, scopes of work, and commercial requirements to support supplier selection and procurement decisions.
- Provide clear procurement status, forecast, risk, and decision updates to project teams and sourcing leadership.
- Lead or implement process improvements that increase sourcing efficiency, data quality, cost control, and supplier performance.
Compliance & Risk Management- Ensure sourcing activities comply with company policies, delegated authority, supplier standards, contractual obligations, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Monitor supplier performance related to safety, quality, delivery, sustainability, trade compliance, and other project requirements.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready sourcing and procurement documentation.
- Develop and track mitigation plans for supplier capacity, pricing, logistics, geopolitical, material-availability, and single-source risks.
Other Duties- Perform additional sourcing, procurement, and supply chain responsibilities as assigned.
- Travel as necessary to supplier facilities, project sites, and industry events.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 3-5 years of progressive experience in procurement, purchasing, strategic sourcing, supply chain, construction, manufacturing, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience independently administering competitive bids, performing commercial analysis, managing suppliers, and negotiating supplier contracts and commercial terms.
- Strong analytical, organizational, project-management, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to make fact-based recommendations.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and working proficiency with other Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to independently manage multiple sourcing activities, competing deadlines, and changing priorities in a project environment.
- Strong written, verbal, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience sourcing equipment, materials, or services for utility-scale solar, BESS, electrical, EPC, construction, manufacturing, or energy projects.
- Experience developing RFx packages, evaluating total cost of ownership, and negotiating supplier agreements involving commercial and contractual terms.
- Working knowledge of supply markets, contract principles, supplier-risk management, logistics, and trade or regulatory requirements.
- Experience using ERP, e-sourcing, procurement, contract-management, or supplier-performance systems.
- Familiarity with technical specifications, construction drawings, electrical equipment, renewable energy technologies, or major capital projects.
- CPSM, CSCP, CPIM, or other relevant supply chain certification.
