Full Job Description
We are reimagining how Materials Planning works at Oura. As the Strategic Lead, Materials Planning Transformation, you will lead that redesign. You will take an AI-first approach to rethinking the planning function end to end: how data comes in from Contract Manufacturers (CMs) and suppliers, how issues are found, and how decisions get made. You are a materials planning expert and a builder of process, workflow, and tooling who can set direction for the function and bring a broad set of partners along. This is an IC role. You will operate with significant autonomy, own outcomes for the function rather than for a single program, and influence leaders across Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, IT, and Product.
What You Will Do:
• Reimagine Materials Planning
• Define the vision and multi-year roadmap for how Materials Planning should operate, with the goal of shifting planner time from data handling and follow-up to analysis, judgment, and decision-making
• Take an AI-first approach: start from what AI and automation can do, and redesign processes and roles around it rather than layering tools onto today's workflows
• Move the function toward proactive, exception-based planning and, over time, toward decision support where analysis and recommendations are prepared for human review
• Build the business case, sequence the work, and use results to decide what to scale, change, or stop
• Evaluate Build vs. Buy for Tools and Systems
• Assess the software, tool, and systems landscape for planning, data integration, and supply chain visibility, including AI-enabled solutions
• Lead build-vs-buy decisions: define requirements, run vendor evaluations and pilots, and weigh total cost, time to value, integration effort, security and data governance, and long-term maintainability
• Partner with IT, Data/Analytics, and Engineering to build internal solutions where they are the better choice, and to integrate all solutions with our ERP and supply chain planning systems
• Set the standards for how AI is used in planning, including data quality, validation of outputs, human oversight, and auditability
• Process Development and Workflow Automation
• Design, document, and roll out standardized planning processes and workflows across CMs, suppliers, and internal teams
• Identify, prioritize, and implement automation opportunities across the planning lifecycle, from data intake and validation to alerting, follow-up, and reporting
• Establish governance, ownership, and change management so improvements hold as programs, partners, and volumes change
• Metrics and Impact
• Develop the metrics framework for the transformation, including a baseline of how planning time is spent today, and report progress to Supply Chain leadership
• Track both the health of the changes (data quality, automation coverage, adoption) and their business outcomes (planner capacity, issue detection lead time, cycle times, supply visibility, E&O and liability exposure)
• Materials Planning Expertise and Influence
• Serve as a functional expert on Clear-to-Build (CTB), supply availability, inventory, allocation for constrained materials, and E&O and liability management, and use that expertise to decide what the tools and processes should do
• Test new approaches against live NPI and sustaining programs, and support supply chain readiness through program launches and EOL
• Align CMs, suppliers, and cross-functional partners around new ways of working, and present strategy and results to senior and executive leadership
• Coach and enable planners through change, and mentor other program managers on process design, automation, and data-driven planning
This is a hybrid role out of our San Francisco office.
What you'll bring
• 12+ years of experience in Supply Chain / Materials Planning or a related field, including experience leading cross-functional or cross-organizational initiatives at scale
• Experience in consumer electronics and/or hardware companies, with deep hands-on experience in materials planning, CTB, and allocation
• Extensive experience working with Contract Manufacturers (CMs), including driving data, reporting, or process standards across external partners
• Track record of designing and implementing process improvements or automation that measurably changed how a team works
• Hands-on experience applying AI, automation, or analytics tools to operational workflows, and sound judgment about what to automate, what to keep human, and how to validate outputs
• Experience evaluating, selecting, and implementing software or systems solutions, including build-vs-buy analysis and vendor management
• Strong data fluency: advanced Excel and comfort with large, messy, multi-source datasets; ability to define metrics and build baselines
• In-depth knowledge of MRP and ERP systems and how planning data flows through them
• Ability to operate with ambiguity and set direction without a predefined playbook, and to build consensus and drive adoption without direct authority
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to senior and executive audiences
