SummarySpark is growing fast, and the decisions in front of us are getting bigger: where to invest, how to fund growth, and which new products to build for our agency partners. We're hiring a Strategic Finance Lead to own the numbers those decisions rest on.
Reporting to our Director, Strategic Finance, you'll own Spark's economics: what each piece of our business is worth to Spark and to our partners (an application, an enrollment, a partner agency, a new initiative), how long that value lasts, and where revenue and cash are heading. You'll turn raw commission and enrollment data into analysis leadership trusts, keep sharpening the assumptions behind our forecast, and help lead annual planning and target-setting. You'll work directly with our COO and CEO, and be finance's connection to sales, partner success, operations, product and data teams across the company.
Much of this foundation doesn't exist yet in a form we trust. Building it is the job, and it's a chance to shape how a fast-growing company makes decisions.
This is a hybrid role in our New York City office located in the Flatiron District.
What You'll DoEconomics- Build and own Spark's unit economics at every level that matters (application, enrollment, partner agency, sales channel, carrier and new initiatives): what each earns Spark and our partners, and how long it lasts.
- Turn messy, inconsistent carrier and commission data into repeatable processes and analyses that refresh every month.
- Be the source of truth for unit economics that other teams build their business cases on.
Outlook and planning- Answer where revenue and cash will land over the coming weeks and months, this year and the next few years, under different sets of assumptions.
- Own the drivers behind our forecast, from partner agencies and agents through applications, quality and retention to revenue and cash. Work with our outsourced finance partner, who maintains the model mechanics, to keep it accurate and easy to adjust.
- Help lead annual planning: the operating plan, targets and the KPIs we track against them.
Capital and new business- Support new financial products for our agency partners: analysis for capital partners, performance tracking and eligibility criteria.
- Build investor and board analysis, and models for new business lines as they come up.
- Give leadership fast, clear answers to time-sensitive questions, with a recommendation.
Connecting finance to the business- Be finance's link to sales, partner success, operations, product and data: understand what's actually driving the numbers, and feed it back into our forecast and analysis.
- Make our outsourced finance partner more effective by giving them the business context and a steady feedback loop, so the model and reporting keep getting better.
- Work with our data team and finance operations to define what finance needs from our data and keep it accurate.
What We're Looking For- 5-7+ years in strategic finance, FP&A, investment banking, consulting, private equity or credit, ideally including time at a growth-stage company.
- Excellent financial modeling, including linking operating drivers to revenue and cash flow.
- A track record of turning raw, unstructured data into repeatable processes and analyses, using whatever tools fit (SQL, Power Query, Python, AI tools or others).
- Sound judgment with imperfect data: you can tell when a number doesn't make sense and trace why.
- You take a vague question to a clear recommendation without being told each step.
- Clear, concise communication with executives, board members and outside partners.
Nice to Have- Experience in insurance, insurance distribution, Medicare, fintech, lending or another commission-based business.
- Structured finance, receivables financing or credit analysis.
- Experience with Snowflake, Hex or similar tools.
- M&A modeling.
