About the RoleWe are hiring a Strategic Finance leader for B2B Product to build the 01 financial foundations and decision-making frameworks that will help OpenAI scale its B2B business sustainably. You will own high-impact work across B2B monetization, compute demand modeling, enterprise deal economics, contribution margin, and more.
This is a portfolio-wide individual contributor role spanning our API Platform and other B2B products. You will connect customer demand and commercial terms to revenue, compute consumption, and margin outcomes; influence some of our largest enterprise deals; and help leadership make sound growth investment, compute capacity, and resource allocation decisions.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA.
In this role, you will:- Own an integrated view of B2B monetization and product economics across the API Platform and other B2B products - including pricing, packaging, channel and usage mix, discounts, credits, commitments, revenue, and customer profitability
- Build, maintain, and improve complex driver-based financial models that connect customer usage, product and model mix, pricing, discounting, credits, commitments, and contribution margin
- Build financial views for B2B compute demand and margin planning; identify risks and opportunities, explain key drivers, and recommend capacity and resourcing decisions that improve portfolio economics
- Evaluate some of OpenAI's largest and most strategic enterprise deals at both the deal and broader portfolio levels - including commercial terms, discounts, credits, usage commitments, compute requirements, contribution margin, and other long-term financial implications
- Create decision frameworks, guardrails, and operating cadences for pricing, discounting, credits, enterprise commitments, and margin management; partner across Product, GTM, Strategic Deal Desk, Compute Finance, Capacity Planning, Data, Accounting, and Finance to operationalize
- Translate complex and messy data into sound, coherent, and data-driven recommendations, scenarios, forecasts, dashboards, and executive narratives; improve the B2B metrics and underlying systems and data that leaders use to manage B2B growth and financial performance
You might thrive in this role if you have:- 10+ years of experience in strategic finance, product or commercial finance, investment banking, private equity or venture capital, or another analytically rigorous role
- Direct ownership of strategic finance, product finance, commercial finance, pricing and monetization, or product P&Ls in a complex B2B business
- Exceptional first-principles financial modeling across usage, pricing, discounts, revenue, variable costs, unit economics, and contribution margin, with the ability to translate complex analysis into clear executive decisions
- Sound commercial judgment around pricing, discounting, credits, enterprise commitments, customer profitability, and the tradeoffs between growth and margin
- Experience influencing consequential enterprise deals, product decisions, resource allocations, or investment choices with clear, data-backed financial recommendations
- Comfort working through compute, capacity, and product-economics tradeoffs; experience with AI, cloud, infrastructure, usage-based, or other compute-intensive B2B business models is a plus
- A track record of deep cross-functional partnership across Product, GTM, Deal Desk, Data, and Accounting - including the ability to influence senior leaders when incentives or priorities conflict
- Excellent communication and executive storytelling, strong financial instincts, high attention to detail, and a roll-up-your-sleeves approach to independently turning ambiguous questions into action
- Fluency working with messy data, defining durable metrics, and building useful dashboards; SQL, analytics tooling, and practical use of AI to accelerate financial workflows are a plus
This is a unique opportunity to shape the financial trajectory of OpenAI's B2B business - from the foundational models and operating mechanisms used to manage the portfolio to the economics of our largest enterprise partnerships.
