Strategic Business Development Manager (Hybrid Hunter/Farmer)

The Business Development Manager (BDM) is a dynamic, hybrid role responsible for driving Superior Signals Inc.'s (SSI) growth through a blend of aggressive new business acquisition (hunting) and strategic management of our largest, high-value accounts (farming).
The ideal candidate is a technical sales professional with a proven track record of selling electrical components, able to navigate complex engineering specs and procurement cycles with ease. As a hunter, you will identify, pursue, and secure net-new business opportunities within targeted industries. As a farmer, you will deeply embed yourself within our top-tier accounts, uncovering expansion opportunities, protecting recurring revenue, and serving as a trusted strategic partner.
YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute strategic plans to identify, target, and acquire new enterprise clients requiring specialized electrical component solutions.
- Proactively prospect and generate new leads through cold calling, technical networking, industry events, social selling, and deep market research.
- Conduct in-depth discovery meetings with engineering, product development, and procurement teams to understand application needs, supply chain challenges, and business objectives.
- Develop and present compelling, tailored presentations and commercial proposals that demonstrate the value, reliability, and integration advantages of SSI's electrical components.
- Meet or exceed assigned net-new revenue and pipeline expansion targets.
- Serve as the primary commercial point of contact for SSI's largest accounts, building deep multi-level relationships from shop floor engineers to C-suite stakeholders.
- Continually map client product roadmaps to identify opportunities to design-in additional SSI electrical components, expanding our footprint within existing accounts.
- Proactively manage contract renewals, pricing agreements, and blanket orders to secure predictable, long-term recurring revenue.
- Oversee the successful implementation and onboarding of new programs for won accounts, ensuring a seamless experience from the initial sales promise to ongoing delivery.
- Act as the internal champion for key accounts, coordinating with manufacturing, quality, and logistics teams to resolve technical or supply chain issues swiftly.
- Maintain a deep, fluid understanding of SSI's electrical component portfolio, technical specifications, and application use-cases.
- Stay informed on industry trends, material shortages, competitive landscapes, and regulatory shifts (e.g., RoHS, REACH compliance) to protect SSI's positioning.
- Represent SSI at key electronics/electrical trade shows, conferences, and networking events to build brand authority and discover untapped verticals.
- Maintain immaculate, real-time records of all accounts, sales activities, technical specifications, and pipeline stages within Salesforce.
- Provide accurate monthly and quarterly sales forecasts for both new business pipelines and key account consumption models.
- Participate in recurring sales and operations meetings to align customer demand with production schedules and share best practices.
- Work hand-in-hand with the Account Management team to create and execute a smooth, effective transition plan for all new accounts, including introductory meetings and knowledge transfer sessions.
- Provide the Account Management team with comprehensive insights into the client's business, key stakeholders, and the agreed-upon scope of work to ensure a strong start to the relationship.
- Proactively support the Account Management team whenever needed, including training, to ensure clients are achieving their full commercial potential.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a relevant field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Business Development (hunter role), preferably in industrial lighting, material handling, or after-market industrial parts sales.
- Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed aggressive sales targets, with exceptional prospecting and cold outreach skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong organizational skills to manage multiple accounts and priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency with CRM systems such as Salesforce.
- Familiarity with sales methodologies such as solution selling, consultative selling, and the Hunter/Farmer sales methodology.
- Knowledge of customer success best practices and account retention strategies.
- Self-directed with a strong sense of urgency, and skilled at building constructive, respectful working relationships with clients and internal colleagues.
- Ability to travel a minimum of 75%; must be in the office whenever not traveling.
