Full Job Description
The Division of Population Science's Center for Outcomes and Policy Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is seeking a Statistician I or Statistician II to work collaboratively with medical researchers and statisticians within our division. Qualified candidates will have formal training in statistics or biostatistics and strong statistical computing skills.
Researchers in the Division of Population Science's Center for Outcomes and Policy Research aim to enhance the outcomes of interventions to prevent and treat cancer from both efficacy and cost-effectiveness perspectives. Investigations focus on optimizing the patient experience by ensuring that clinical and societal resources from interventions to services are utilized in the best possible way. By identifying determinants of the quality-of-care patients receive, investigators can work toward eliminating barriers to optimal care and translating their findings into programs that can be implemented on a large scale.
The statistician will work with multiple investigators on research projects from the early stages of study design through the later stages of manuscript preparation and submission to peer-reviewed journals.
The statistician will use standard statistical packages for data manipulation and statistical analysis; write the statistical methods section of a manuscript and assist in writing the results section; and summarize results using tables and figures.
The statistician will lead the statistical aspects of study design, including identification of appropriate tests and/or models for different types of studies, sample size, significance level, and power.
The statistician will manage and organize data files and analysis codes of the assigned projects, so that any other statisticians in this group can easily take over and reproduce the results.
The statistician may assist multiple investigators in the preparation of research grants. Specifically, the statistician will consult with investigators in planning grant submissions to help formulate specific aims, match the study design with scientific objectives, review relevant subject matter literature and any preliminary data, plan reasonable data analyses, and calculate and justify sample size.
The statistician may also work on developing or testing new statistical software for novel statistical techniques.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Training in statistical methodology, coding, data analysis, and effective presentation of results.
Understanding of the nuances of data wrangling and ability to apply sound principles of reproducible research methods.
Ability to perform specified analysis methods and assess underlying assumptions.
Ability to discuss and present results, share ideas accurately, and communicate them effectively, both in writing and verbally.
