What will you do- Advise on state and local tax planning opportunities arising from business transactions, restructurings, and operational changes
- Research and analyze complex state tax issues and develop practical, business-focused solutions
- Lead and support state tax controversy matters, including audits, appeals, administrative proceedings, and litigation
- Monitor and assess legislative, regulatory, and judicial developments affecting the company's state tax profile
- Partner with business, legal, finance, and tax teams to manage state tax risks and maximize value
About youWe are seeking an attorney with a strong background in state and local tax planning and controversy who possesses the following qualifications:
Skills and Qualifications- Minimum of 7 years of state and local tax experience, including tax planning, controversy, or multistate tax advisory work
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
- Licensed to practice law in at least one state
- Strong knowledge of state income and franchise taxation principles, including nexus, apportionment, and sourcing
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex tax issues and communicate practical recommendations to business and tax stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications / Experience- Tax LL.M. preferred
- Experience representing clients before state taxing authorities or supporting state tax controversy matters
- Experience advising multinational or multistate businesses on state tax planning initiatives
- Familiarity with state tax implications of mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and legal entity simplification projects
- Experience evaluating the state tax consequences of evolving business models, supply chains, and commercial transactions
- Strong project management skills
- Adds value by collaborating effectively with colleagues, clients, and other support functions
- Shares knowledge to develop capabilities of the whole team
- Excellent legal research, technical writing, and advocacy skills
