Job Description

As a Staff Thermal Design Engineer at Nokia, you will play a crucial role in advancing our optoelectronic component designs by developing innovative thermal solutions. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across various locations, contributing your expertise to tackle complex challenges and enhance product performance. Our fast-paced and dynamic work environment fosters creativity and encourages you to prototype and validate solutions through experimentation. You will have ample opportunities to interact with vendors and drive specifications, ensuring seamless integration of thermal solutions into our products. Your analytical skills and detail-oriented mindset will be key as you perform FEA analyses and create production-level designs, all while contributing to the development of new platforms that meet cost and efficiency goals.

Responsibilities
• Design and implement innovative thermal cooling solutions for cutting-edge optoelectronic components utilizing conduction, convection, and/or phase change based heat transfer.
• Conduct thermal, thermo-mechanical, and mechanical FEA analyses to model and validate designs.
• Lead experimental validation of thermal solutions to ensure performance meets specifications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop assembly procedures and optimize product designs.
• Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) on proposed thermal designs to mitigate risks.
• Create detailed production-level CAD models and drawings for manufacturing readiness.
• Work closely with vendors to finalize specifications and manage procurement of thermal components.
• Engage with manufacturing and operations to ensure new platforms meet cost, yield, and cycle time targets.

Qualifications

You have:
  • MS or PhD (preferred) in Mechanical Engineering (0-10 years' experience)
  • Expertise in FEA and CFD, with proficiency in ANSYS and FloTherm
  • Solid experience with Pro/Engineer, Creo, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

It would be nice if you also had:
  • Knowledge of optical design principles and industry qualification specifications
  • Familiarity with SQL databases and Agile product data management SW
  • Experience in conducting experiments to validate modeling
  • Understanding of thermal solution assembly procedures
