We are currently seeking a
Staff Systems Engineer to provide cross-functional technical leadership in the development of advanced military electronics and computing products. This role will solve complex technical problems across electrical, mechanical, firmware, software, networking, and qualification disciplines while translating customer needs into system architectures and working products. The position works in a fast-paced environment where prototypes are developed rapidly and reports to the Director of Engineering.
Duties/Responsibilities:- Develop system concepts, architectures, requirements, trade studies, and technical solutions for complex electronic products.
- Lead rapid technical exploration, IRAD, prototyping, breadboarding, proof-of-concept development, and feasibility assessments.
- Provide hands-on engineering support including schematic review, board bring-up, electronics debugging, embedded firmware/software troubleshooting, and computing, networking, and operating-system diagnostics.
- Define and resolve complex cross-functional integration issues across hardware, firmware, software, mechanical/thermal design, interfaces, EMC/EMI, and system architecture.
- Lead technical reviews including SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and other customer or internal reviews.
- Define technical risks and drive resolution through analysis, testing, prototyping, and design iteration.
- Develop technical proposals, CDRLs, and other engineering documentation and serve as a primary technical interface with customers and partners.
- Provide technical mentorship and design review support to electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, and qualification engineers.
- Collaborate with Business Development and customers to identify product opportunities and develop technical roadmaps.
- Support environmental and EMC/EMI qualification activities and travel up to 10%, including occasional international travel.
Required Skills/Abilities- Demonstrated ability to architect complex electronic systems and remain technically involved through implementation, integration, troubleshooting, and verification.
- Strong electrical engineering knowledge including PCB design principles, schematic interpretation/design, digital and analog interfaces, power, signal integrity fundamentals, and board-level troubleshooting.
- Hands-on laboratory debugging experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, power supplies, JTAG/debug interfaces, and related instrumentation.
- Strong embedded systems experience involving microcontrollers and/or FPGAs, firmware, board bring-up, and hardware/software interfaces.
- Practical experience with computing platforms, Linux-based systems, networking, storage, system configuration, and hardware/software integration.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering processes including requirements, architecture, interfaces, trade studies, verification, integration, qualification, and customer reviews.
- Excellent technical writing, communication, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and effective in a fast-paced environment with multiple simultaneous programs.
- U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
Education and Experience:- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- 10+ years of hands-on engineering experience designing, integrating, and troubleshooting complex electronic systems.
Preferred Qualifications:- Familiarity with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, DO-254, or DO-178C.
- Experience with airborne or SWAP-constrained military products.
- Experience with ruggedized servers, embedded computing, high-speed data transfer/storage, or audio/video recording systems.
- Experience with TCP/IP, MIL-STD-1553, Fibre Channel, NFS, SMB, FTP, or RDMA.
Physical Requirements: Ability to sit and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time. Hand dexterity and precision.
