Position Summary...
The Staff, Software Engineer plays a critical role in delivering scalable platform capabilities by leading software development, infrastructure, and tooling initiatives aligned with strategic roadmaps. This position drives the full software lifecycle, including design reviews, coding, testing, and deployment, while integrating AI/ML components to enhance automation and intelligence. The role requires technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration across teams to ensure high-quality, maintainable solutions. By applying cloud-native principles and data-driven practices, the engineer advances engineering excellence and continuous improvement to meet evolving business and customer needs.

About the team:
The Savings & Incentives team at Walmart Marketplace develops the incentive operating system that supports seller rewards. Our work spans internal tools, seller interfaces, and integration with payment systems, impacting both marketplace builders and sellers. Operating across multiple systems and teams, we navigate dynamic priorities and rapid feature releases. Collaboration with product, design, data, and engineering teams is essential. What you'll do...
  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and machine learning frameworks aligned with roadmap priorities.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Lead system design reviews to validate quality and alignment with architectural standards.
  • Build AI-driven applications and integrate machine learning components to enhance automation.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements.

What you'll bring:
  • Proven expertise in cloud-native frontend architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong experience in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
  • Proficiency in React, Next.js, and programming languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, Rust, Dart, or C++ for AI/ML integration and platform development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead software development lifecycle activities, including CI/CD deployment, observability, and maintenance.
  • Skilled in conducting system design reviews and applying data-driven decision making to optimize engineering outcomes.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions to promote engineering excellence and sustainability.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills to engage cross-functional teams & stakeholders.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
