What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for a Staff Scientist to provide services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.
- Breed and cross different fish colonies.
- Culture primary cells collected from fish germline or soma.
- Fix and immune-stain cells and tissues collected from fish.
- Perform traditional and Gateway cloning to tag genes with a wide variety of fluorescent and non-fluorescent tags.
- Generate mutant gene alleles for structure function studies.
- Record and interpret experimental research data.
- Review and discuss experimental research results.
- Train others to perform biological and biochemical assays.
- Create and maintain zebrafish transgenic animals.
What You Will Need:
- Ph.D. in Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline with a minimum FOUR (4) years of experience in related field or master’s degree with at least SIX (6) years of specialized experience in lieu of PhD.
- Extensive experience in Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and microscopy techniques.
- Extensive knowledge of fish and frog genetics and asexual reproduction.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD “public trust”; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.

What Would Be Nice To Have:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experienced with MS Office Suite.
- Able to compile research findings, reports and develop manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
The annual salary range for this position is $98,000.00-$163,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
