The Staff Landman will provide commercial support to the Southwest Business Unit, working with minimal supervision to maximize asset value through organic growth. This individual will partner closely with the Sr. Land Manager, Land Director, and the technical Resource Expansion team to develop and execute commercial strategies. The individual must have exceptional organizational skills and a wide range of experience including exposure to multiple basins and a deep, demonstratable track record of facilitating commercial, business development and exploration initiatives across multiple basins with a focus on the States of Texas and New Mexico.
Essential Roles & Responsibilities- Facilitate and negotiate commercial and business-related terms related to due diligence for the acquisition and/or divestment of assets within the assigned geographic area
- Facilitate and manage land related activities including lease acquisition, trade negotiations, and contract preparation and administration
- Interpret and negotiate contract terms and conditions associated with the acquisition, development and/or divestiture of real property
- Develop leasing/acquisition strategies in collaboration with other technical disciplines
- Negotiate, draft and administer agreements on exploration activities including but not limited to, assignments, trade agreements, joint venture agreements, participation agreements, farm-ins, farm-outs, confidentiality agreements
- Develop and cultivate relationships with all stakeholders.
- Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all people associated with SM facilities
- Others duties as assigned
Software Applications- Highly skilled in Microsoft Office, especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel, AI applications, and other industry related software.
- Experience leading others with industry/company software including, but not limited to, working in QLS & AFE Navigator.
- Familiarity with Enverus and the latest industry intel resources available to SM.
Role-Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills- Advanced ability to apply extensive and diversified knowledge of land principles, expert techniques, modifications, and extension of theories. Advanced knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations. Advanced understanding of land management principles including negotiations, contracts, leasing, and titles (i.e. title, JOA's, oil and gas leases, curative documents, surface/mineral permits, commercial transactions and strategy). Advanced at negotiating, constructing, and presenting commercial and business contracts and leases.
- Advanced understanding of exploration, development, and acquisition/divestiture economic metrics. Advanced knowledge and evaluation methods and risk analysis.
- Has advanced understanding of land and technical (engineering and geotechnical) knowledge of multiple basins/resource plays within the Lower 48, with a specific emphasis on asset areas within Texas and New Mexico.
Typical Education: B.B.A. degree in Energy Management, Land Management or other Business degree; Certified Professional Landman status preferred.
Typical Experience: Minimum of 7 years of relevant industry work experience.
