Position Summary:

Illumina is seeking an experienced Staff Analyst, People Technology to support global HR technology programs. This role reports to the Associate Director, People Technology and serves as a senior functional owner for Workday Time Tracking, Absence, Benefits, and payroll-related integrations.


Required Skills:

  • Workday configuration: hands-on configuration and support for Time Tracking, Absence, Benefits, related business processes, validations, calculations, approvals, work schedules, eligibility, accruals, balances, enrollment events, plan rules, and life events.
  • Payroll and benefits integrations: define functional requirements, data mappings, monitoring, reconciliation, exception handling, controls, and test coverage for payroll and benefit-provider interfaces.
  • HR and payroll domain knowledge: understand time and absence calculations, payroll processing dependencies, benefit eligibility, enrollment events, and downstream processing controls.
  • Reporting and analytics: build reports and dashboards for payroll readiness, interface monitoring, balance validation, benefit reconciliation, and operational decisions.
  • Testing and releases: plan Workday releases and lead system, integration, regression, parallel, end-to-end, and user acceptance testing for HRIS changes.
  • Security and data controls: protect the accuracy, confidentiality, security, and auditability of employee and payroll-related data across global systems.
  • Automation and AI judgment: identify responsible automation or AI use cases with human review, privacy, access, accuracy, and audit controls.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the senior functional owner for Workday Time Tracking, Absence, Benefits, and payroll-related integrations, including roadmap and enhancement priorities.
  • Lead end-to-end solution design across time capture and approval, absence eligibility and accruals, benefit enrollment and life events, and payroll data flows.
  • Diagnose complex system, interface, security, and data issues with Payroll, Benefits, technical teams, and external vendors within required processing timelines.
  • Lead global HR technology initiatives from scope, requirements, dependencies, schedule, risk, communications, and change planning through stabilization.
  • Create clear procedures, runbooks, training, user guidance, requirements, testing materials, control documentation, and status reporting.
  • Coach analysts and project team members on functional design, operational readiness, controls, and support practices.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Substantial hands-on Workday configuration and support experience across Time Tracking, Absence, Benefits, and payroll-related integrations in a complex organization.
  • Experience defining data mappings, reconciliation methods, exception handling, and test coverage for HR, payroll, and benefits interfaces.
  • Experience gathering requirements, analyzing business processes, and recommending practical system or process solutions.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with close attention to data quality and payroll-impacting deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders at multiple levels.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting global or multi-country time, absence, benefits, and payroll integration requirements.
  • Experience developing Workday Extend applications and workflows.
  • Experience with Workday reporting, security, integration tools, dashboards, and operational analytics.
  • Experience applying AI, machine learning, robotic process automation, or workflow automation to HR technology operations within defined privacy and human-review controls.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and charts.
  • Experience working with Agile, Scrum, or related delivery practices.

  • Applies systems thinking and HR business knowledge to turn complex requirements into practical, maintainable solutions.
  • Balances detail orientation with a strong understanding of payroll deadlines, downstream impacts, and control requirements.
  • Builds trusted partnerships across HR, Payroll, Finance, Technology, Audit, and external vendors without relying on formal authority.
  • Communicates system and data risks, tradeoffs, recommendations, and required decisions clearly.
  • Works independently, adjusts priorities, and handles sensitive data, access, AI, and automation with sound judgment and discretion.

 

Preferred Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Human Resources, or a related field.

The estimated base salary range for the Staff HRIS Analyst role based in the United States of America is: $118,200 - $177,200. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. The range reflects long0long0term growth in the role; therefore, most candidates are hired between the minimum and middle of the range. Placement depends on experience, skills, location, and internal equity. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
