GCC provides construction management, project management and commissioning support for a portfolio of Non-Recurring Maintenance (NRM) projects at the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS), covering its VA Medical Center campuses in Montgomery and Tuskegee, Alabama. The work includes replacing the aging central boiler plant with a new boiler system and its supporting infrastructure, along with a building renovation and the renovation of pathology space. Other projects replace fire alarm systems in several buildings, correct failing plumbing conditions, and mitigate critical electrical hazards through site lighting improvements, which together address deficiencies found in facility condition assessments. On-site mechanical engineers, electrical engineers and staff architects are each assigned to a specific project, providing project management, scheduling, cost and change order control, and review of submittals and requests for information. The team also runs quality assurance inspections, constructability and phasing reviews, and safety and code compliance monitoring. It coordinates closely with facility staff so construction doesnt disrupt ongoing hospital operations, utilities or patient access. The team oversees commissioning and startup of new systems, so each project is fully tested, documented and ready for turnover to the VA over the next five years. Requirements The Staff Architect (SA) shall hold a Bachelor of Architecture from an accredited school of higher education. It is required that the individual has a minimum of six (6) years of experience in both design and construction. The SA shall be able to quickly understand and master the requirements of the local state and federal jurisdictions and the requirements of each in relation to this Project. The candidate must be skilled in code and other regulatory requirements including environmental and historical applications. The SA shall possess the knowledge of Construction Contract Documents including Front End and Technical Specifications and Drawings to readily assess the requirements of the materials and methods.
