DescriptionThe Senior User Experience Designer will join AppFolio's Maintenance team to design how property managers, residents, vendors, and owners experience maintenance. You will own design for a set of Maintenance Performer initiatives that are early, strategic, and still have open questions. This is a high impact design role for a designer who can act as a strategic partner to both product management and engineering while turning ambiguity into a path forward.
Your Impact- End-to-end ownership: Own design for new Maintenance Performer capabilities from early problem framing through shipped experiences, including voice AI
- Strategic partnership: Frame problems with product management and engineering, propose options, prototype to learn, and help the team choose a direction
- Designing with AI agents: Define what the agent handles and where people stay in control, and make what it did visible, trustworthy, and correctable
- Vendor network: Design how a partner vendor network fits into maintenance coordination
- Voice AI: Help shape voice AI for the Maintenance Performer, including how conversations are designed and how call outcomes show up for the property manager
- Adoption and fit: Make new Performer capabilities self-serve, and build them on the workflows and system of record customers already use
- Cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate with product management, engineering, and external partners to drive design decisions, facilitate critique, and surface cross-team dependencies early
- Research and discovery: Facilitate user research to validate design decisions, and lead discovery work when direction is still open
- Design system and mentorship: Contribute to and evolve AppFolio's design system, and mentor other designers
Qualifications- Have led design on ambiguous, early stage initiatives and carried them through to shipped work
- Have breadth and flexibility: you can move between projects with different skill needs, often more than one at a time
- Design for several user types within one system and make deliberate tradeoffs between their needs
- Have designed systems where an AI agent or automation acts on a user's behalf, with human-in-the-loop controls
- Are an effective communicator and collaborator with experience driving design decisions across engineering, product management, and external partners
- Have experience measuring the impact of design work and using product analytics to inform ongoing improvements
- Have a strong UX writing sensibility, the language in notifications, follow ups, and agent messages
- Bring a systems thinking mindset, seeing how a change in one workflow affects the others
- Use AI assisted tools in your day-to-day design work
Must Have- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in user experience or product design, with meaningful time on complex workflows or operations products
- Portfolio: A portfolio demonstrating design process, judgment, and impact on work that started with open questions, including how you narrowed the problem and what shipped
- Multi-user workflows: Experience designing for more than one user type within a single product or service
- Strategic partnership: Experience partnering directly with product management and engineering to shape roadmap and strategy, not only to execute on it
Nice to Have- Experience designing AI driven, conversational, or voice experiences
- Experience with PropTech, real estate operations, or enterprise products
