The Thermal Systems team supports thermal testing, characterization, and prototyping in the development of Lucid products. R&D technicians partner with engineers to fabricate hardware, build harnesses and test benches, instrument benches and prototype vehicles, and capture reliable, traceable data in a safe, ready-to-use laboratory.
Role:As a Thermal Laboratory Technician, you will support thermal testing, characterization, and prototyping through builds, instrumentation, test execution, troubleshooting, and prototype-vehicle work. Independently complete moderately difficult assignments with little daily instruction and general guidance on new work. Engineering retains test objectives and design decisions; this technician role turns that intent into safe, repeatable lab execution and reliable evidence. Success in the first year means reliable standard builds and tests with minimal supervision, high first-pass setup success, low rework, current calibration records, and traceable data. We encourage candidates who may not meet all listed requirements but can demonstrate a strong ability to learn quickly on the job to apply.
- Build and Integration: Independently fabricate, build, and rework standard prototype harnesses, metal and piping assemblies, test benches, fixtures, and breakout interfaces to drawings; perform mechanical/electrical integration and pre-energizing checks.
- Instrumentation and Calibration: Install, configure, and validate sensors; set up DAQ channels, scaling, and signal conditioning; maintain calibration records and troubleshoot common signal-quality issues.
- Test Execution and Data Quality: Independently execute test procedures with safe power-up, pre-test and post-test checks, traceable data, and run logs; perform first-pass data sanity checks and flag anomalies quickly.
- Structured Troubleshooting: Resolve common bench, harness, sensor, and test-article issues using fault isolation, swap testing, multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and load banks; verify fixes by retest.
- Prototype Vehicle Support: Diagnose, maintain, and repair prototype vehicles and bench systems; instrument vehicles for engineering tests and provide field support during test trips.
- Safety and Documentation: Follow and reinforce lab safety, LOTO/energy-isolation, PPE, and special-handling procedures; maintain build records, redlines, BOM updates, as-built status, bench change logs, safe cable routing, labeling, and housekeeping.
- Team and Lab Operations: Partner with engineers to turn test intent into executable builds and tests, order essential supplies, maintain lab equipment, and provide clear handoffs.
Qualifications :
- Proficiency with fabrication tools and machinery and with blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Hands-on experience building or reworking harnesses, test benches, fixtures, or prototype vehicle systems with strong workmanship.
- Ability to install and validate sensors, configure DAQ channels, and use multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies to resolve common issues.
- Ability to independently execute test procedures under an engineer's direction with safe power-up, accurate records, and clear deviation reporting.
- Working knowledge of lab safety practices, including energy isolation and PPE, and clear communication with engineers.
Preferred:- Data acquisition and test tools such as NI DAQ, Vector tools, Dewesoft, LabVIEW, and CANalyzer, plus familiarity with LIN and CAN.
- Thermal measurement with temperature sensors, pressure transducers, and flow meters; basic thermal engineering principles; and hands-on refrigeration systems and equipment experience.
- Experience following battery, high-voltage, or chemical handling procedures in an R&D laboratory.
- Experience with structured problem-solving and continuous-improvement methods such as 5 Why, fault-isolation trees, and kaizen.
- Manager-supplied preferred education/experience: Automotive Technology degree or experience, ASE certification, or an AS/AA with 3+ years of related experience. This is a preference, not a mandatory degree or a substitute for level-specific scope.
Physical Requirements - Shop and Field Work: Handle materials and perform fabrication, vehicle, and test work in shop or field environments. The manager and HR must define essential lifting/material-handling demands and applicable accommodations before posting.
Work Requirement Laboratory, shop, prototype-vehicle, and field work. The manager requests domestic and international travel, driving prototype vehicles, handoffs between shifts or technicians, and availability for overtime and weekend work as needed. Confirm site, shift structure, travel frequency, driving authorization, schedule, and applicable overtime arrangements before posting.
